I bought this philips headphones recently after purchasing my new iPod shuffle (see my review). I have decided I need to make more of a commitment to regularly exercising and as I enjoy running anyway (and it's free!) I'd thought I start making myself go running.
I bought the iPod shuffle for this very purpose and found that the apple headphones are great for exercising as they fall out of my ears. I had a look at the philips headphones and decided these looked like the best fit for me in terms of design and price. I didn't want anything too expensive and I also wanted something that would feel secure and wouldn't fall off. So here are my thoughts:
- Design -
These headphones have cushioned ear pieces which sit on top of the entirety of your exposed ear. They are padded with foam for comfort which feels nice but also retains the great sound quality. They have a contoured neckband so they feel really secure even during vigorous exercise (not that I'll be doing a great deal of that...) and certainly don't bounce around when I run. They sit comfortable around my head, are flexible for different sizes and are really easy to wear. My only real issue is that the neckband isn't adjustable and mine sticks quite far out away from the back of my neck. This isn't really a major issue but they might feel more secure yet if you could adjust this.
- Look -
These headphones are predominantly black with a little silver on the outside of the earphones. I like the way they look, it's practical but also aesthetically pleasing and definitely appropriate for running. They don't come in other colours but to be honest, who doesn't like black?
- Storage -
As I am trying to run as much as possible these won't be going into storage anything soon but I'll just tell you my thoughts if I was going to store then. Pretty impractical to be honest, they don't fold down to a smaller size and because of the neckband I would worry about carrying them in my bag or luggage for fear that they might snap. This doesn't bother me at the moment as I am not travelling with them but if I was I think I'd either have to wrap them in something or take a different set of headphones altogether. Not ideal.
- Sound Quality -
The sound quality is very good in these headphones. I think inevitably you lose a little of the sound quality when you opt for over ear headphones rather than in ear but to be honest this is minimal with this design and they feel comfortable so no complaints from me!
- Cost -
These headphones cost me £14.99 which is far cheaper than the majority of other headphones I've looked at. They are also a really reliable brand so if I have any problems I'm sure philips will help me to sort them out.
Overall, despite some minor problems I'm pretty happy with my choice and can see myself using these for quite a while yet.
Summary: A great set of headphones with a few liveable problems.
