Pioneer HDJ-1000
by lambchop83
I bought these headphones in about 2007/2008 as an upgrade to a set of cheap Technics I had when I started off DJing. I got them from Hard To Find Records www.htfr.com for around £120.00. I did see them on ebay for half the price, but after reading a few reviews I quickly found that most of the cheaper ones you find on ebay and other ... marketplaces are cheap chinese imitations - and though they may look like the real thing before you buy, what you end up with can be quite different. So beware - you really do get what you pay for. I wanted quality, so I made sure I purchased them from a reputable company that could provide me with a warranty should I need it.
These headphones have stood the test of time, not only for me, but htfr and other online retailers are still selling the exact same headphones for around £130.00 which proves how good they are.
My DJ decks are Pioneer and virtually indestructable, and I was advised that for DJs they were an excellent make. I was a little hesitant to spend so much - but when they arrived I wasn't disappointed. They look extremely good with the silver and chrome effect and Pioneer's logo printed atop the head strap and have large ear cushioning. They have a quality look and feel to them, the leather is soft and comfortable, the fit isn't too tight and they are easily adjustable. My only criticism of the finish is that some of the silver plastic bits could look more refined, I'm trying not to say the plastic cheapens them a little, but that's what springs to mind. Only a little though, I'm sure any other material would have made them heavier and more expensive...
Both earpieces swivel around with ease to every position imaginable which is handy if you just want to listen with one ear, so this will suit any DJ's style - I like to alternate wearing them around my kneck, on my head and sometimes just holding them to my ear when lining up music. In a hot club if wearing them around my neck I found I didn't get a sweaty neck like with some of my other headphones - that's not nice... Beacuse they bend and swivel in many directions they can be carried easily in the compact Pioneer draw string bag that they come with. This bag has been so handy as it protects them from getting dusty and bashed. My HDJs are still looking pristine.
The cable is ideal for DJs as it's coiled, so it's short when you need it to be and stretches when required, it doesn't get tangled or wrap around you in the DJ booth when you move around, which believe me does happen, I've tripped and been in knots alot!
They have a mono and stereo switch. The sound quality is out of this world in my opinion, which wasn't really neccessary for the type of DJing I do - but at home when watching a movie on my laptop or playing a game - it's immense. I should imagine if you're a professional mixer they'd be great, and I guess that's why they're still pretty popular.
I would buy these headphones again in a heartbeat. Read the complete review |

Pioneer SE M10R
by jboho
These really are some industrial- type headphones, the design could be right off a contruction site. A screw locking system for adjusting the strap length may seem like a step too far, but it is a realy asset. Pioneer have aimed these phones at the DJ market- and it has payed off.
Sound Quality:
As with all speakers, I ... tested them over five tracks of varying audio: classical, spoken word, pop, metal and electronic- these provide a good range of pitch types and dynamic changes. These headphones proved to be very good at the bass levels. They were absolutely shocking, the deep sounds went right through me- this may be too much for some people, but it was very enjoyable. The treble was not as punishing, but was good nontheless. Overall, high quality sound came out of these phones.
The design, although a little odd, is quirky and reasonably good- looking. This comes with a detatchable coiled cord- with either a 3.5 mm jack or a full audio jack. This is good news for DJs who would need both options.
Overall, I would not recommend these heavy- duty headphones to the average iPod owner, but is a very good product for any DJ. Read the complete review |

Pioneer SE CS12
by hazumi-san (audiophile)
My main purpose of this review is to prevent other people from
making the same mistake like me.
Well, I was looking for a new pair of earphones for my collection.
I never had a pair of Pioneer earphones before, not even try it..
So, I was interested to buy it, attracted to its packaging and
considering ... that Pioneer is one of well-known, professional audio stuff (such as home theater and speaker) manufacturer.
Besides, the earphones itself is good-looking, well designed.
BUT.....
When I got home and try it, I was dissapointed...
no, very dissapointed......
well, it is basic that if an earphone doesn't fit nicely in one's ear,
the sound quality would be bad.
This earphones won't fit nicely in my ears despite the two different sizes of earchips supplied. ( i think it won't fit nicely in most other people's ear too)
And the rubber earchips are just an irritant to my ears. A bad news if you want
to enjoy your music for long hours with this earphones.
I tested this earphones with my Sony walkman NWZ-A726
There was almost no bass (although I have set the equalizer to maximum bass output)
and the sound clarity was not impressive. And unlike other earphones that I have,
I had to tune to higher volume when i'm using this earphones.
For example, I usually set the volume level at 13 or 14 when i'm using my Shure or Sony
earphones. But when using the se-cs12, I had to tune the volume until 19 or 20 to get
the same level of loudness. (that's a waste of battery power)
The sound was only impressive when i hold and pressed those earphones into my ears. (nice bass and clear stereo)
But, who would want to hold earphones a long time.... Earphones are not made for people to hold it when using it....
It just won't fit in my ears if i don't hold it.
I've asked a few people to try this earphones and they also said that it didn't fit nicely in their ears....
I've wasted my money (9 pounds is quite a lot in malaysia.... haha..)
my main reason for my disappointment is that there is cheaper earphones
that sounds many times better than this pair of Pioneer.
One of them is the Sony MDR-E818lp or MDR-e737lp(i have one).
Imagine, the se-cs12 more expensive than the mdr-e818lp and the MDR-e737lp ,
but the mdr-e818lp and MDR-e737lp sounds almost 10 times better than the se-cs12, with
better shape to fit most people's ear with comfort.
The bass was much more powerful and the sound clarity was impressive.
They are also capable of handling a wider range of frequencies compared to the se-cs12.
I know its too much but I need to say this: buying snacks is more worthy than buying the se-cs12 earphones.
If you're looking for earphones, I recommend that you buy the sony mdr-e818lp or the mdr-e737lp
(mdr-e737lp is the same earphones with the mdr-e818lp earphones but with neckchain and thicker cord).
They're cheaper, but delivers almost high-end sound quality. (depends on the mp3 player you're using)
Conclusion: If you're looking for earphones, don't waste your money to buy this pioneer se-cs12 (unless you're rich).
they are other cheaper but better earphones (such as I've mentioned above).
I'm sorry Pioneer but its just the fact. Read the complete review |
