Sennheiser CX 500
Advantages: Great sound
I have said before in my reviews that I love Apple products and that I also prefer the in ear kind rather than the ones that rest on the nook of the ear. I'm a sucker for a big name and when it comes to ear and headphones you don't get much bigger than Sennheiser.
Even though I love the look of the White Apple ear buds they are not actually noise cancelling earphones. That said, they are better than the standard earphones that come with iPods. The CX500 still don't feature noise canceling technology but they do use noise isolating techniques. This is achieved by making sure they fit properly in the ear and keeping the music where it should be and external distractions where they belong on the outside. The fact that there is a good selection of ear buds contained with this means that all types of ears can be accommodated. Not every ear is the same so it's great that unlike most ear bud style earphones these gave me a choice to choose from and the option to find which one suites me best. There are three different sizes of the standard traditional ear buds. And there is also three different sizes of enhanced ear buds. Both are soft and comfortable to wear and sit in place with absolutely no slipping.
By finding the right fit the Sennheiser sound is made all the more enjoyable.
There is a noticeable quality to the sound, there is a depth to it that I don't find on even larger headphones. The clarity is unbelievable. Seeing that most people, if not all will be listening to digital recordings the clarity is fantastic. Vocals are crisp and clear every instrument can be heard and unlike the Apple headphones the base is very much there. It has a good strong yet perfectly balanced base level. It is never overpowering to the extent that it turns the sound in to a muffled mess. It it perfectly in proportion to all the other aspects of the sound. There is an easy to use volume control on the lead this is good because I don't have to reach in to find my devise to lower the volume. I can instantly lower the volume if someone needs my attention or higher it if I am on my own. There is also a little clip provided that I use to attach the lead to my coat. And a small pouch is also included but I have never used it as I always carry a handbag.
These cost more than Apple earphones as far as I'm aware (I received these as a lovely gift) but the sound quality if far superior.
Summary: Fantastic ear bud style earphones
