Advantages: Sennheiser sound and warranty

Disadvantages: What...at less than £20

Sennheiser HD201. A real Hi Fi sound for less than £20 online.

Summary

If I needed a new set of cans and I was working to a tight budget, I would buy these.

I do not own a pair of the HD201 but I have demod them in several stores where they retail for around £30.

I do own HD280 pro monitors, CX300 IEMs, PXC 150 Noiseguard and reference series Grado SR60 open backed headphones, these have won more awards for their sound over the last 10 years than any other cans.

Comfort

Circum-aural full sized closed back headphones that sit on the side of the head.

They weigh 165g, that is light for this type and they have a ‘Y’ shaped cord.

The headband is not very tight, even on my big head, and the pads although not as luxurious as their dearer cousins are still comfortable enough.

Attenuation of external noise

Yes they are closed back and so in this respect they are better than open backed designs but because they are not as bulky or as tight to the head they are not as good as the top Sennheiser models, but they cost less than £20 .

Sound

Be amazed, I was, they are sensitive, 108db which means you can drive them loud even with a small mp3 player

Quality, well they sound like their more expensive cousins, clear treble, bass that can be followed, individual instruments are easily picked out. Good sound-staging if a tad more closed in than the dearer models but they cost less than £20 online.

Build quality and materials are bit cheaper than the German and Irish Built Sennheiser’ , these are made in the PRC but ….

Sennheiser off these with a two year warranty….and

These cost less than £20 online and if you look really hard you can find them for not much more than £12. These sound like Hi Fi headphones for less than £20!!

Walk past those cheapo Sony, Philips, JVC, Panasonic, Tandy, no name monsters and get a pair of great sounding Sennheiser for less than £20. Also consider the similarly priced CX300 IEM

Summary: Cheap cans shouldn't sound this exciting

You would have been better writing about the ones you own in their own catagory - Belinda

I agree with Missy. Only writing reviews about products you own over a period of time can be useful.

Sorry for low rate but product reviews are supposed to be about reviewing something that you own, or have at least used extensively...not something you've just demo'd in a store....you wouldn't know from demo'ing something how long it lasts..etc x
