Advantages: look good, sound great and a good price
Disadvantages: maybe need to stretch them out to fit a bigger head
Rather than worrying about everyone within a ten mile radius complaining about the racket that is Max Payne blasting out of my television I decided to buy some headphones.
I discovered the sound quality of Sennhieser around six years ago when I bought ear buds for my MP3 player. Having tried numerous different brands and forking out exorbitant amounts of money I found Sennheiser earphones great quality and value for money.
These HD205's are the first headphones I have purchased as apposed to ear buds and since I bought these I am loathe to remove them from my ears because they sound so good.
** Price and Packaging ***
I bought these from Currys for £44.99 however, shop around as you may pick these up cheaper on line. Amazon looks to be a good bet. I wanted them right away so didn't mind paying the extra.
The headphones come in a clear plastic container which I was excited to open. After around ten minutes of hacking furiously with some scissors and being stabbed with jaggy plastic I eventually held my new headphones in my aching hands.
** What do you get with these headphones? **
The headphones, an extra 6.3mm screw on adaptor in shiny gold plating and a carry case for your headphones. This case is nothing fancy so don't get too excited. Really its just a black sack made out of some cheap looking fake leather material with a draw string top.
** Do they look good?**
In a word - yes. I have to admit I feel kind of cool wearing these. I had expected to look like a dork with big ear phones on but instead I found myself indulging a fantasy where I am a super cool DJ. Not at a dork (!)
Moving on swiftly...these head phones look good quality and expensive. They have an understated design. Unlike some trendier brands these headphones don't try too hard to look cool they just do.
They have a thick headband with the classic Sennheiser logo written across the band. The base of the headband has thick soft padding on it so they sit comfy on your head. The headphones are plain black with silver disks just above each ear pad. These are swivel discs that allow you to swivel one ear off if you are dj'ing, pretending to be a dj, or just want to ask your flat mate to get you a cup of tea. Although, the discs do have a function they also look pretty cool.
The ear pads are thickly padded with the same plush padding as the head band.
I bought these for home use and wouldn't wear them out and about. They look good enough to wear out but my ear buds release no noise at all and as I don't like other people hearing my music at all I shall stick to them for public transport.
** Are they comfy? **
Yes. They fit snuggly on my head. I'm a tiny little female at just 5ft therefore have a tiny little head. I have worn them for hours at the playstation without any discomfort at all. In fact, I enjoy wearing these snuggly headphones. However, If you have a big bonce it is possible you may want to stretch them out a bit before wearing for a long time.
The ear pads and head band padding are supper soft and comfy although I have already managed to get the ear pads covered in make up.
The cable is around 3ft in length. I found that this lets me sit comfortably on the sofa with these plugged in without any trouble.
** Do they sound good? ***
Yes. They sound great. Whilst using these headphones I have noticed sounds that I have never noticed before listening to music on my speakers or the television. They pick up lots of detail and give a good quality surround sound experience.
They don't let out a lot of noise and I can't hear any extraneous noise when I am wearing them which means your housemates can sneak up on and you won't hear a thing.
The sound is well rounded so you can boost up the volume without hurting your ears. At max volume the sound still sounds great.
For me though the strongest point of these headphones is the bass. These headphones sound fantastic if you are listening to dance music. I have never been the biggest fan of dance music but I through these headphones I may just change my mind. I found myself listening to David Guetta's titanium with a ridiculous grin all over my face because on these headphones it sounds so darn good. I even tried them out with a bit of dub step this was certainly an ear boggling experience in a good way.
** Would I recommend these? **
Yes again. I would certainly recommend these headphones. They are not outrageously expensive, look good, feel good and they are the best sounding headphones that have ever graced my ears.
I am not a technically minded muso so I just want my headphones to sound good enough and these exceeded my expectations they are the best headphones that I have experienced.
If you do buy them them and you just might not want to take them off!
