Advantages: Quality sound
Disadvantages: Not very compact
Sennheiser, probably THE name when it comes to quality headphones. It definitely is one of THE names when it comes to expensive headphones. These however are from their more affordable line of products. My producer friend has a pair by Sennheiser that cost him over £500. That is exactly how much these cost, well if you loose a zero off the end. These actually cost me nothing, but my brother got them for me as a very nice Christmas gift and as he handed them to me, he loudly said "they cost 50 quid yeh know?" Charming.
Seeing that these are on the lower end of the Sennheiser range, I was hopeful that quality wasn't going to be compromised in order to lower their normally astronomical prices. These can actually be bought at amazon.co.uk for £34.99 + shipping at the moment.
These headphones feel good, both when holding in my hands and more importantly wearing them on my head. The ear cups are well padded and cover the entire ear, unlike the little tiny in ear style earphones made famous by Apple. I find that I only use these at home, this is mainly due to the fact that they are a bit on the big side when compared to the more compact and easy to carry ear buds. These would have to be stored in a bag or backpack as they won't fit in your pocket of course.
Some people on the other hand may like to wear them around their neck when not in use, although I find you have to have the right look to carry this off.
What's the most important thing when it comes to earphones and headphones? Sound of course.
And I'm glad to say the Sennheiser sound is still present on this budget range model. The quality of the sound compared to my old Sony headphones is unmistakable. I can hear everything and hear it clearly. Previous headphones that I've owned when they have good base that's all you really hear. Good base can totally take over the sound of any sound system, be it personal or home cinema. These however have great base, but they also have all of the other aspects of the sound spectrum that result in a true quality sound experience. Both music and vocals are crisp and clear, and talk radio sounds deep and rich.
Now to compare these to my little Apple earphones and ear buds, there is no comparison. I am Apple crazy, but the sound difference between these and their more compact models just isn't worth talking about. All I need to say is Sennheiser wins every time and it kills me to say that.
Thanks for reading :0) 2night.
