Advantages: Amazing clarity, comfortable design, optimum bass, affordable
Disadvantages: Not enough bass for rock/metal, sound leak
Before I write this review, I must first introduce myself as a non-audiophile and I don't have extremely sensitive ears that can differentiate between 128kbps and 312kbps MP3s. What I do have is normal ears that can differentiate between noise and music.
These pair of headphones is my first purchase, right after Phonak Audeo earphones, and so that's the only thing I can compare with, if any. Now, you can get these headphones for £68.41 on Amazon which is considerably cheap entry-level headphones into the audiophile market, ignoring the overhyped and poorly designed Skullcandies and Bose headphones. This is also half the price of its bigger brother, HD595 which doesn't have many improvements and requires an amplifier to maximise its potential.
Also note that these headphones are open, therefore sound do leak out of these headphones, and if you are thinking of not disturbing the people in your room or on the tube, then this is not one to get. When I watch movies or listen to music at the average volume, my partner will always complain regarding the leak. However, the sound you get from this is out of the world, with the bass (but not very heavy) making your movie more intriguing and the clarity to your perfectly sounding music. If you plan on using this when you're on your own, then these pair of headphones will do you justice.
The atheistic of these headphones are cool-looking and will make heads turn, and they are also very comfy with the padding on your ears. I never had an uncomfortable moment wearing these. The headphones come with a 6.25 mm audio cable, but there is also an included adapter to convert it to the small 3.5mm audio jack.
If you are looking for a pair of open headphones with optimum bass, amazing clarity and comfortable design with a cheap price tag, then this is what you're after. If you enjoy listening to rock and metal, or if you are afraid it might bother the people beside you, then this might not be for you. One thing is for sure, you will not go wrong with these headphones as your first purchase.
Summary: A good pair of entry-level headphones

- 11/04/09 Recently bought a set of Sennheiser, they are the best earphones I have ever used. Can be a bit pricey but they are excellent. |
