Advantages: sound quality is amazing, long cord ,comfortable to wear for long periods of time
Disadvantages: they don't look great, they have cracked on both sides, expensive
I am wearing these headphones as I type, so thought that now would be a good time to review them. I actually rescued these from spending the rest of their days in landfill as my fiancé was going to throw them out. He had been using them with his PC for several years (he thinks it was about five years) but fine cracks had appeared on each side. It didn't affect their usability, but he replaced them with a headset with a microphone so no longer needed them. I had already used these several times when borrowing his PC and knew how good they were and couldn't bear to see them thrown out over a minor defect, so took them to listen to music on my laptop.
These headphones are not something I would have ever bought for myself as I prefer simple earphones. I also really don't like the design of them and think, quite frankly, they look slightly silly on. It's the shape of the ears that does it - they remind me of ear muffs I used to wear in winter as a child of the eighties. I used to think my fiancé looked ridiculous in them and having just looked in the mirror I can confirm I look just as ridiculous, although I don't really mind since I'm only wearing them in the house - after all they are incredibly chunky and not easily portable.
The headphones have padding on the headband as well as on each ear and this is made of a soft velvet-type material which makes them very comfortable to wear and they're lightweight too. I find even if wearing for a long time they stay comfortable and despite the thick padding my ears don't get too hot. My fiancé used these mostly when gaming and I suppose they are perfect for that, if you're specifically looking for comfort when sitting at a PC for long periods. They do of course have an adjustable headband and the ears are flexible so hopefully they should be a good fit on most people. The cord on these is 3 meters so a decent enough length if using with a TV or a PC - especially if you keep your base unit underneath your desk. They have a 6.3mm jack and a 3.5mm adapter, so will fit any MP3 player or the headphone socket on most TV's, PC's etc...
I remember very clearly the first time I used these headphones. I was watching a music video on my fiancés PC and the sound was just amazing - crystal clear and just absolutely perfect, it was as though I was in the same room as the singer, it was just so true to life. At first I assumed that the PC just had some sort of awesome sound card, it was only when I attached the headphones to my old Acer laptop, which had a very tinny sound quality that I realised that it was actually the headphones which were phenomenal.
I wouldn't say I have a musical ear so can't really be technical about bass or beats or any of that stuff, I just know they have great sound quality and an incredibly crisp sound. I use them for listening to music, mostly on Spotify and when watching Youtube videos, which are mainly things like tutorials or reviews of people speaking. The technical spec I have just read suggested they are great to use with home cinema and I would agree with that, as they give that 'in the room' feeling I mentioned earlier and an almost surround sound feel. It's for this reason I find watching concerts or live music fantastic with they convey that atmosphere really well because the sound almost surrounds you.
One thing I should probably note, is that when my fiancé would use these for gaming, if I was in the same room I would be able to hear whatever was going on (gunfire or whatever), so they are not great if you're looking for a pair of headphones that won't disturb others.
When I first looked up the price of these headphones I was slightly shocked to see that they were selling for £90 on Amazon, although having checked today they are now selling for £80.57. My fiancé confirms he paid a similar price several years ago although he got them from Play.com who don't currently have them in stock. I've never paid more than a tenner for a pair of earphones, so I was really taken aback by the price, but they are absolutely fantastic and now I know what they're worth I'm doubly glad I didn't let him put them in the bin!
To sum up, would I recommend these? Yes I would. The fact they are so pricey and have developed cracks in the same place on each ear is slightly worrying and they are in my opinion quite ugly, but other than this I can't fault them. They may be eight times more expensive than any pair I've bought myself, but I honestly think the sound quality is eight times better, so I will be taking good care of these and hope I can get a lot more use out of them yet.
