Overall these are a great buy. I would most certainly recommend.

The Sennheiser HD598 headphones are by far, some of the most popular in their pricerange. As far as audiophile headphones go they are in the lower margins of cost, but they are incredibly well rounded in terms of sound quality, granted there are some headphones in a similar price range which are more accurate at reproducing every single minute sound in the background of a song.
Their most standout feature (to me at least) has to be their very open soundscape, due to their open back design. This is one of the things that makes these such a versatile set of headphones, as the soundscape works incredibly well with directional sound in computer games and movies. After using these with my PS4 I simply could not go back to using a regular headset.
There is a downside to this part of their design though. A lot of noise bleeds straight out of the headphones, so you probably want to keep these around the house and not listen to Britney Spears at full volume on a bus. If you want some headphones for portable listening, these are probably not for you (unless you don't mind irritating the people around you with muffled music sounds).
In terms of the reproduction of sound, they make for a very enjoyable listening experience. The bass is very warm and lively, and they cover most pitches well. Everything seems to sound very fun through these cans, but they have a bit of a weakness in genres such as classical piano music, where everything can begin to sound a bit manufactured - especially at the higher pitches.
Comfort is also high with the real leather headband and incredibly soft earcups. You might expect them to feel a bit stuffy around the sides of your head, but I have not found this to be a problem.
Build quality is also high, though maybe not as premium as some of the metal framed headphones of similar price or cheaper, and design is quite hit or miss. I personally am very fond of their looks, but I can understand that some people really dislike the colours.
Anyone just getting into to high quality headphones, or looking for a very versatile set of cans with a lot of forgiveness should take a look into these.
