Skullcrushers to crush your mind!
Member Name: screedsean
Advantages: superb comfort, sound quality and style
Disadvantages: may hurt after a while and slightly cheap feeling plastic
For many years I had bought cheap in-ear headphones and then had to replace them after half a year or so. Actually one pair of really cheap ones lasted only a few weeks. One day however, my friend got me to listen to a certain track, and this track was played to me through a pair of Skullcrushers by Skullcandy. In an instant my mind was amazed at the clarity and depth that these headphones gave to me. Soon after I purchased a pair of my own Skullcrushers off of the web and awaited their arrival. To this day they are still with me almost wherever I go; so here's an overview of what's good and bad about them and why they won't leave my side.
The headphones sit over your ears to really immerse you in the sound that they produce. The headphones are easily adjustable so that they can fit just about any size head easily, which is great for letting others listen to your music and you don't have to worry about germs or anything like in-ear headphones. The 'drums' or 'cans' of the headphones have padded leather or fake leather (I am unsure which) to cushion your head from the speakers very nicely. In all honesty I find the headphones a pleasure to wear, but only for short periods in time. I find that if I wear the headphones for too long the sides of my head seems to ache a little. I am still a little unsure of why this is, maybe due to the headphones pressing in on the side of my head or me having them on too loud; but I can cope with this as I never really have the time to listen to them for too long.
---Sound Quality/ Noise cancellation---
As many reviews have said before, and I will say again, these headphones sound really good, crisp and have a decent depth to them. You have to be careful to adjust the 'bass booster' to the right level however as when listening to a particularly heavy track the bass can make the headphones sound distorted. Although I don't listen to much chart music I must say that these headphones make that genre of music really come to life. With regards to noise cancellation - I was actually on a bus just a few days ago, and was forced to sit at the back of a double decker next to a very noisy diesel engine. Once I put on my Skullcrushers however there was minimal noise and once turned on they filled my mind with lovely rich music once again. You certainly can't hear others talking around you with these on. Admittedly the headphones aren't the loudest pair I have ever heard but they don't need to be as they don't need to compete with background noise.
These headphones come with a very have bag to place them in which even had a toggle catch to tie a drawstring up with to keep them from falling out. The headphones actually can unclip and fold round and together so that they are smaller and can fit easily inside the bag. At first I thought that this folding joint would be a weakness but after years of usage my Skullcrushers have never broken or even showed any kind of wear. Compared to other over-the-head headphones in this price range these are certainly the easiest to carry with you by far. Even when you are wearing them the number of joints they have make them comfortable and easy to wear either on your head or around your neck.
Like I have said I have never had a problem with my pair of headphones, they continue to work just fine and do exactly what they say they do. The only minor issue I would have is that the plastic that they are made from feels a little cheap and flimsy. The plastic seems to do its job fine so I can't really complain but they don't have the quality feel of a pair of Monster Beats for example. Suppose it's just the price range they have been placed in.
These headphones come in a range of colours and designs. One pair has even been promoted by Dr Dre, which is blue and white, with a matching carrying bag. I own a pair of black pinstripe ones but there is anything to suit your sex or even your mood. Skullcandy always seem to manufacture their products to make them aesthetically appealing and this product does not lack in this department. It is probably personal taste as to what you would look for in a pair of headphones but I really like them and most of my friends do to.
Personally I think I have made a great purchase with my Skullcrusher headphones. At around £40 I was sceptical that they would really be great when I actually owned a pair but they are amazing and apart from wearing them for too long (around four hours max at a time for myself) I would say that everyone should own a pair and be able to experience what these headphones have to offer.
Summary: Please just buy a pair and experience them for yourself - you won't be dissapointed
