I bought a pair of these back in around 2005 and they have only just given up, after accompanying me to on numerous trips abroad, plus hundreds of bus and train journeys and thousands of more mundane trips to and from work. They served me well.
They are very lightweight and can also be cleverly folded up to fit into a much smaller space, making them ideal for travelling. Obviously little in-ear headphones take up considereably less space, but I prefer the adjustable over-head frame as it keeps them secure over the ears without constant need for adjustment.
The sound quality is excellent- they go very loud with next to no distortion, and also have a rather powerful bass sound, given their size. The speakers come with foam covers, and these might get a little tatty eventually in your bag, but they can be easily replaced for next to nothing if and when they do fall apart.
The headphones have a reasonably long cord and connect to your walkman with a simple 5mm jack. Eventually the wire above this jack was what gave way for me, after being jostled around in badly packed bags once too many times, reducing the headphones to mono sound coming from the left speaker, but it took 6 years of constant use to get to that point.
I'm not sure I can bring myself to throw them away to be honest, even if they are now devoid of foam covers and capable of blasting extreme metal out from a solitary speaker only. I might have to give them a viking funeral. In any case, I have just bought a brand new identical pair, which can be picked up on ebay for just under £15 delivered.
If youre a real audiophile then you might want to go with something more expensive and sophisticated, but if you simply want a cheap, durable and confortable pair of headphones that produce clear and loud sound, then these are pretty much impossible to beat.
