I produce a lot of music, and wanted some reliable headphones that i could produce on in the early hours of the morning (i was receiving some noise complaints) After some extensive research i found that the 7506s had not a bad word said about them. So i found them for a good price on amazon, and made my purchase!
I have to say i was very impressed with them! they came with a gold plated adapter a nice bag to carry them in and a years Sony warranty card!
It took a while getting used to them, making music and mixing on them, the bass can sometimes be lacking a bit so i tend to do rough mixes on the headphones and then do a final mixdown on my monitors. But they really are great and reliable, i can make music with them 24/7 without worrying about anything!
I also use them a lot just for general listening now, just as the sound quality is just so superior to any headphones i have had in the past. Another bonus is that the pads are replaceable.
I would definitely recommend them, and i would purchase them again if i lost them or they were stolen.
Headphones, good headphones, create a personal listening experience for audiophiles. Poor quality headphones can ruin a listening experience. Good music, which is any music you enjoy, deserves a quality product. I relied on a sales person at my favorite mega store in NYC I am sure many of you may have heard of or purchased from via the internet. Be that as it may, this person, whom after I inquired about quality headphones, asked me a question. "How much are you willing to spend?" My response was, "Well, how much are you referring to? to which he said, "Are you willing to spend a hundred dollars?" I sort of indicated that I might and he led me to the best value to quality set he had. As it turns out these were not the most expensive. They are the Sony MDR-7506 PROFESSIONAL Dynamic Stereo Headphones.
Packaging: Not normally an important feature unless it is so over packaged that you can't open it with bare hand-unlike some hermetically sealed plastic encased objects you need poultry scissors to get into least you cut yourself to the bone, no pun intended. This box was beautifully presented with a careful nestling of the primary headset in what can only be said to look like crushed velvet. And yes, it was a breeze to open.
Immediately I noticed the generous patch cord length at least 7 feet of soft coiled wire that both feels and responds as if it could never break. The jack itself is gold plated which all audiophiles know yield a better electronic transfer AND it comes with both the small and larger versions to accommodate the two most standard inputs. I bought these to listen in peace and to preserve the peace as I explore the seeming endless amounts of music out on the www. They were intended to listen to music from my laptop. This is pre-MP3 player.
I booted up the old Dell and inserted a CD. I plugged the cord into the headset plug and began to listen, really listen. I paid a C note for these, they better be as Tony Tiger says, GRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT. They were. The over ear type ear pieces were soft, comfortable, and not sweat producing after 30 minutes of uninterrupted listening. The way they are attached to the flexible support band allows for a comfortable fit without undue pressure or twisting. The headphones adjust up and down to accommodate the largest of heads.
As far as quality sound, these do not claim to be noise reducing and that was not the feature I was looking for. But the ambient sounds about the house such as a TV on say a volume level of 20 are reduced while playing music at reasonable levels to unnoticeable yet allow for the perception of a ringing phone set on hi ring, or the generally accepted rap of a knock at the door from 25 ft away. I heard EVERYTHING from the CD. Even sounds I never really noticed before. I am very pleased with this purchase.
The only issue I have with them is that for my purposes, the cord may be too long, but not really a problem unless you sit on a reclining chair and frequently get the cord stuck in there every time you sit up and mash the leg extension down! The other issue is the thin wire that runs from both the R headphone to the head band and around to the L headphone. It appears a bit fragile and I am concerned that if I get it caught on something, anything, it might break it. However this may be a non issue. Just pointing it out.
Another great feature is that they fold in such a way as to allow the ear pieces to fit snuggly into the parabola of the head band for ease of transport and storage in the vinyl sack with drawstring that come with the headphones.
The next time I returned to my favorite mega store, I sought out the salesman and commended him on the fine item he sold me. If I were to break them, or if I loose them, I would not hesitate to purchase them again regardless of the cost. They are for me a great value to quality item.
