Sony MDR E931LPS
Advantages: Good soundquality and loudness, wearing confort, nice cable
Disadvantages: cable cover gets apart
This review is concermed with the Sony MDR E931 earphones, which are released in the classical design, that does not go all the way into the ear. They are recommended for all the users, who want to use earbuds that do not go all the way into the ear and stop all outside noise and make you hear your own breathe or steps when walking. This is very annoying for some users and I do not understand why there are almost no classical earbuds out there.
These sony earphones come in the typical winding case from sony. They look very well and have a different shape to the cheap sony models like MDR E 828 LP or 829 v. They look like the walkman earphones from sony mp3 players such as the NW- E407 or NW E-507. They also include foam pads and they should be used for better soundquality and bass. I explained it in detail in my other earphone reviews.
Another interesting thing here is the cable. It has some cuttom cover (if this is the right word) which looks very nice and smells very well. It smells typical for new technical items and keeps it's smell very long. Unfortunately the coer get's damaged after time and after about 3 months the cover will be damaged at several places which is a shame. Fortunately the cable has a rubber isolation aswell.
The wearing confort of these earbuds is very good, aktually one of the best wearing conforts, I experienced with earphones. They have a very good shape and are not the smallest earbuds, so they fit tightly in the ears and stay there until you take the out. The great wearing confort also allows for better soundquality and bass response, since earphones, being loose in your ears wont sound the same as ones that stay tight.
The soundquality of these earphones is decent. They do not sound as transparent as the Sennheiser MX 660 but still over a lto of details in your songs, which is quiet surprising for sony. I have checked their big headphones like the MDR V700 and I have been very dissapointed with the sound of it. These earphones provide good clarity, a nice Bass and great midds, which is great considering a lot of earphones do not provide good midds. These do and are recommended for those who want earphones that play the midds louder than most earbuds. The bass is deep and detailed, it sounds like coming from the song instead of a cheap boom so there is nothing really to critisize about the sound here. They sound very alive, however not as seperated as the MX660 or 760 from Sennheiser.
These earbuds are much better then Sony MDr E828 LP or E829 V and provide good soundquality and loudness. Unlike mentioned by the other reviewer I could not notice them getting worse. They scratch from time to time, but when that happens, you turn the volume of your player up high so the drivers expand again and the scratching dissapears. The sennheisers have the same issue from time to time. What I do not like about these earphones is that the nice cover get's away after time.
