Advantages: Great sound quality and stylish looks.
Disadvantages: very thin cable`s susceptible to snapping.
Being that I just love music and that perhaps not everyone wants to be subjected to my particular favourite tracks as I sit in front of my pc or laptop I constantly use earphones. For a long time I was a great believer that earphones were earphones and there was no point in choosing one particular pair over another as they were pretty much all the same.... how wrong I was!!
All the earphones I had used were the types that sit inside your ear but I was unaware that there was great benefit to be had from using earphones that actually sit in the ear canal rather than just in the outer ear crevice. This fact was pointed out to me by a good friend of mine who happens to be a dj and knows pretty much everything there is to know about music and sound quality. He told me (what I can now verify to be fact) that because the earphone is pushed into the ear canal there is no loss of sound and no outside sound can be heard to spoil your enjoyment of the music.
So I now had to choose which particular type of earphone I would use, being a great fan of Sony products this was the first place I looked and they had loads of options in their ear canal range so I read a bit about each model and plumped for the Sony MDR-EX71SLB which turned out to be a very good choice.
The sound from these earphones is tremendous, for the first time I can experience bass from my earphones and I am hearing notes in certain tracks which I have listened to for years that I previously haven't noticed. The sound reproduction from these tiny earphones is fantastic and for the very reasonable price of £22 they have been a truly great buy.
I have now had these earphones for around 7 months and if anything were to go wrong with them I would certainly buy another pair the same without even considering any options they really are that good. I purchased mine from Amazon and the pack they came in contained a soft carry pouch, a 1 meter extension cable, three different sized silicon ear buds and of course the earphones themselves. The interchangeable ear buds are a great idea because obviously not everyone's ears are the same size and if the earphones do not fit properly then they can be annoying and also you can lose sound quality.
The only downside to these earphones and it is a very small one, is that the cables seem very flimsy and they would probably snap very easily if tugged on or caught on something but as long as you are careful with them they will serve you well for a long time.
Having used earphones both more and less expensive than these ones I can honestly say I have never use anything better. You get exactly what you would expect from a Sony product, good quality, good looks and high performance. I have used these on my mp3 player, my laptop and my pc and even at high volumes they are pitch perfect and you can use a fair amount of bass before you get any sort of distortion.
My experience with these earphones has been very good and I would be very quick to recommend them to others in fact I would go so far as to say if you need earphones these are the only ones you should consider.
Thanks for reading!

- 24/01/08 Very helpful, these are just what I've been looking for as a birthday prezzie for my other half. I've had a lot of trouble finding a pair with a longer extension cable. :-) |
