Sony MDR RF860RK
Advantages: Wonderful innovation
Disadvantages: My head's too small
I share a house with a few people, and so it's often not convenient to play music at full blast, especially at night, but I hate being confined to wired headphones, they're fine for on the move, but when at home I like to be free not to have to be chained to my iPod.
*WIRELESS; these headphones work by securing a radio link between your music device (via a 3.5mm headphone jack) and them. They're okay to about 100m according to Sony, but I think this is an estimate of how well they'd work if you were in a giant room with no walls, realistically they work to about the same distance as your cordless housephone would.
*CHARGING CRADLE; many of these headphones I looked at before settling on these needded batteries, a ridiculous amount of AA/AAA batteries. Sony have invented a charging cradle, I admit, its not going to win any design awards, and just gathers dust most of the time, but it certainly saves buying endless batteries. The charging is done by "electromagnetic induction", basically they also charge wirelessly, if i remember from physics its something to do with an oscillating magnetic field produces an electroc field.
*QUALITY OF SOUND; you;d expect a loss in quality without wires but it isnt the case, these headphones deliver crystal sharp quality, it's only really limited by how good your mp3 files are, (or cd's if youre feeling oldschool)
*FITTING; this is my only real disadvantage that I can think of, Ive got quite a small head and they dont fit PARTICULARLY snugly, well, theyre not as snug as I'd like and have experienced with others, they feel like they could slide off if I shook my head too hard
You should really give the sony headphones a chance, its so liberating not to be chained to an output device via a wire. You're free to dance about the room at your leisure without getting tangled ;)
Summary: You'll wonder how you ever survived with wires
