I purchased the Sony headphones for watching YouTube and TV etc on my laptop so wasn't expecting much.
I tried them first on my phone and was immediately impressed. However after connecting them to the more powerful output of my laptop the headphones really came to life. They produce a slamming bass when called for and a relaxed treble which makes for easy listening especially on albums like disclosure settle. I then compared them to my sennheiser MX500 in-ear headphones and the difference was like night and day. I've always liked the Sennheiser but to my surprize they sounded awful (no bass, piecing treble)against the cheaper Sony's.
You would have to pay substantially more to get even a marginal improvement in sound quality. The only area that perhaps needs more refinement is the treble which is not quite as sweet as it could be. I owned a website selling Sennheiser and Beyer headphones a couple of years back so I've had the opportunity to listen to many different headphones from £10 to over £200. The Sony's compare to headphones costing closer to £50 so a real bargain.
I simply can't stand ear piecing treble and tinny, thin sound which just ends up being fatiguing. Luckily the Sony's have none of this and instead offer a relaxed sound delivery with a meaty bass and full midrange. This does mean they are not as informative as higher end headphones but it is a good compromise. The MDRZX100B delivers with some short falls however at this price point it would be unfair to expect more!
They are comfortable, light weight, well made and sound superb. For £10 this is ridiculously good value for money. It's worth buying 2 just to have a spare, you never know when the price will go up.
I always thought the headphone was cool, it was really comfortable on you head. The was great, I thought the price was alright, I bought it so I can listen to music with a better experience. Before the headphone, I used another headphone that came with my mobile phone. And I broke in five weeks. However the headphone now I'm using is still working. Every time I felt I was in a large room and the sound was all around me.
Excellent earphones from Sony giving me the quality I have come to expect from this company. They are in ear with an extra long lead so you can use them any time and anywhere without feelings of stretch. I listen to music in the gym and these earphones stay in my ears even when I am running the treadmill.
The earphones are comfortable in my ears and came supplied with 2 spare ear buds in different sizes so you will always have the best fit possible. All the buds fit and suit my ear shape so I use them as spares rather than to change the size and shape.
Sound is very clear through these earphones and it remains clear through all genres of music. The earphones cancel out most background noise but a little still comes through it you have your music volume on a low setting.
The thing missing is a cable clip, very much needed on a lead of this length to prevent tangling.
The jack on these earphones is gritty for the first few times they are plugged in but that eases in a short period of time and after that it is smooth. I have noticed damage to the jack casing over the last few days but they have been used heavily with my laptop to listen to audio files and I have not been as careful with this end as I should have been.
A price of £19 makes these expensive earphones but the quality and comfort of them means they are worth the high cost.
Great headphones. I got them as a gift and I really like them. They're great for carrying around in your pocket always ready to pull out and connect them to your phone to enjoy music on the movement (or even hands free calls, even though the lack of microphone limits this option). I only think that the cable could be a bit longer especially for the left headphone. It was a bit short compared to the right one so I had some trouble getting used to it. It also was falling out of the ear on a few occasions. Other than that these are great headphones that you'll really enjoy. The sound quality is great and the noise cancellation is magnificent. You have to be careful though. When you put these on, you can't hear anything, so watch out, I almost got hit by a car. There was no sidewalk and the car was behind me so I couldn't see it. When wearing these always make sure to look behind you before crossing the street.
Aside from that mishap, these headphones are really comfortable to wear. This is the main reason they get a 5 star rating. Great sound quality doesn't mean anything if the headphones are not comfortable and you can't wear them. These are the opposite. You almost don't event feel that you have them in your ears (except the fact that the music is playing and you don't hear anything else) even after hours of wearing.
I would recommend these to everyone.
I prefer using in-ear earphones more than any other type of earphones or headphones, because they never fall out, meaning I can use them in the gym or when I go for a run. Unfortunately I tend to go through earphones quite quickly - I have never owned a pair for more than a year, because they either break or disappear. For this reason, I have given up buying expensive earphones a while ago. I picked up these Sony in-ear earphones about a year ago after breaking my nth earphones, and to my surprise they have lasted for more than a year! To me this is record-breaking.
- Price -
I picked these up online somewhere (perhaps in HMV, I can't remember) when it was on sale - I remember it was definitely less than £20. Currently it is sold out in amazon uk, and retail from sony stands at £29.99. With hindsight, I believe I would still have bought it at £29.99, because it really is a reliable product with great sound that is worth the price.
- Packaging -
As with most in-ear earphones, the packaging contains 3 pairs of ear buds for you to choose from, varying in size. I tend to go for the small one because that size seem to fit me best. The ear buds are quite sturdy once you put it on the earphones, so that they don't fall off easily. The wire is in black, matching the colour of the earphones, and fairly long so that I can put my ipod in the pocket of my tracksuit bottoms and still use the earphones comfortably.
- The Sound -
I don't claim to be a tech expert, so I will not pretend that I know anything technical about the specs of this product. But for me, these earphones deliver a very good sound. Clearly defined and clean, less rich than the sound you would expect from speakers, but richer than what you'd expect from average earphones. I also find that these earphones tend to have some noise-cancelling effect - because they are in-ear, they can really filter out any sound in the background and allow me to concentrate solely on what I am listening to.
- Overall -
I love my earphones and I love that they are still standing strong and doing the job well for me after a year - more than I can say to any of my previous earphones. I would definitely recommend it.
So, within a month of writing this review, these beloved earphones finally broke... the result of extensive usage and yanking it in and out of ipod/ipad/laptop too many times, I guess. To give you a rough idea of its lifespan, if my memory serves right, this is about the 13th month of me using these earphones. Pretty good I guess, given that I'm a frequent user.
RIP my sony earphones, and time to hunt for a new pair!
I purchased these headphones online, as I wanted some that would work on my computer as my kids always moan when I am on the computer and I play my music, I found these online for £11.99 which I thought was reasonable, I did not want anything too expensive but I did not want something too cheap either, so I went with these ones.
On opening the box, which I found tricky as they do come in pretty hard packaging, I had to get my scissors to cut the box open. When I finally got into the box, the speakers are well packaged and the lead is tied up together so you don't have lots of loose wire dangling around. I took the black tie off the wire, and unravelled the wire which is quite long, and long enough for me to use in the computer unit which is low down and still be able to sit back and relax while using it.
The earphones come with silicone ear buds, which do come with 3 sizes so no matter what your ear lobe size is they will fit into your ear, they come in small, medium, large and extra large. They are easy to change and do just detach, and slip back on. I have found occasionally when they have been in my ear the silicone buds have come loose although I am not sure if that was my fault or not as I may not have connected it in properly.
I do find these more comfortable to wear then normal ear phones, as I have found that they can start to hurt your ear lobes when they have the hard ear buds, whereas these are nice as soft with them having the detachable silicone buds, which also fit any sized ears unlike your normal headphones.
They are easy to connect to your computer all you have to do is put the end into your headphone slot in your computer and that's all, you do not need to install any sort of software or anything. These headphones will also fit into any mp3 player as I also tried them in mine, so you do not just have to used them for your computer.
On using the headphones, I found the sound that came through it was really good, and also pretty loud compared to what it was like with just my computer speakers, so I did have to turn my computer down slightly, no matter how loud the sound was though there was no muffled noises or any crackling all the sounds came out just perfect and you could hear every word, and now I don't have to listen to the kids in the background either which is a bonus loll.
I would recommend buying these for plenty of reasons, you can find cheaper headphones, but I do not think they would be as good as these, they are more comfortable than most headphones I have tried, the sound comes out perfect and they are easy to use but I suppose most headphones are loll, and also the wire is pretty long and long enough so you do not have to be close to the headphone socket. So far I have not found a problem with these headphones, so in my eyes they was a bargain.
