Advantages: Fantastic game sound quality, directional, Strong build quality mostly
Disadvantages: The massive price tag, flimsy microphone stalk
My friend bought one of these last year and to be honest I do not understand why as he hardly ever games and the price tag puts off even I, who actually games far more frequently. There is no way I would ever pay about £100 for a headset no matter how good the quality of it is - However, I have to admit, it is pretty damn good!
I mostly play First Person Shooters (FPSs) and a high quality headset comes in very handily in these types of game as directional sound can really improve your gaming performance. This headset allows you to not only hear the slightest sound in perfect detail but also allows you to locate it with pinpoint accuracy using the variety of speakers within the earpiece.
The multi-directional sound system within this product can actually replace a 5.1 surround sound system However only one person can hear it - this can either be bad as you cannot enjoy the sound experience with friends and family unless they also have headsets or good as it means you can game into the dead of night without disturbing parents, siblings, partners etc...
I tried this headset once to watch a movie and although it does feel a little weird at first due to it feeling like an entirely new experience, I quickly got used to it and actually think I preferred it.
The build quality of the headset is mostly good. The earpieces feel solid and the cushioned headband is very comfortable and robust. I have no doubt that these parts of the Headset will last for years no matter who the owner is. However, the microphone seems a little flimsy. It sticks out from the main body of the headset via a fairly thin stalk which folds up and down. I was constantly afraid that this would break off if I put it down in the wrong place and it happened to get kicked or trodden on. Many of the Turtle Beach headsets now come with a very robust stalk which is as thick as the actual microphone end and therefore I feel a lot more at ease with this.
Speaking of the microphone...
As headsets allow you to talk via them too, lets review this!
I cannot confirm the quality of the output as obviously it is just the word of other people and the quality of their sound equipment will be a limiting factor. However, from what I have heard when my friend has spoken to me using it, the microphone is very good. There is no static or background noise whatsoever when using them which is something which annoys me so much with certain gamers online. I usually hear my friend's voice very well and we can easily have conversations online without any cutting out or low volume which once again can be issues with certain equipment.
Summary: If you can afford this, it is definitely worth it
