Apple EarPods with Remote and Mic
by k444tmc Recently I have just written a review on my new iPhone 5 and although I really love my new phone, as noted in the review I feel the Apple designers could of done a lot more to bring the new handset up to scratch against the other competitors in the market in terms of design and features... so although its a brilliant phone that I would ... highly recommend I feel more could of been done... but one thing they managed to get right this time around was the re-design of the Apple ear pods which come with the handset and now have the redesigned name of "Ear Buds". One of the first things I noticed upon opening my new iPhone 5 box was the neatly presented half transparent and half white plastic box travel container containing the ear buds. The lid is transparent which can be lifted on and off with ease and the base is the white section. The main sections of the buds which you put in your ears sit in the molding of the box facing outwards and the wire itself is wrapped around the outside, leaving space for you to place down the transparent lid to keep them protected. When you turn the container over you see the Apple logo engraved in the middle. In my opinion the travel container holding these is very durable and well made and has survived being thrown around a lot by my young daughter and has not suffered any damage to the outside or to the product which is kept inside. When I say Apple have done the ear buds right this time around, I mean they completely redesigned the look and comfortableness of them which were the two things I detested about the old design. The previous ones were round in shape which were very irritating and uncomfortable sitting in your ear. Now the shape is kind of oval and as well as looking good they sit in the ear a lot better making them more comfortable to wear and as a result I actually enjoy listening to my music through these instead of my big usual chunky headphones! Using them is easy enough... as previously mentioned these are wired and you simply plug your connection at the end of the wire into your music device - however these can be used for anything to play sound such as laptop, TV's and portable game consoles - all of which I have tried and they work perfectly in everything I have tried. In terms of sound, its clear even at loud volumes... I would say there is better ones out there but they come free with an Apple product and you can't really complain about something that's free as long as it works to a decent standard... can you?! As like the previous model of earpods, these come with a volume control half way down the wire and a microphone - which is great for those who like to use hands free. ********** Generally for me Apple fixed all the issues with the old ear pods - which were comfort, sound quality and appearance. Although the new phone wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be they have got everything right on this little freebie. The only thing I would say to make them better is a larger choice of colours other than the plain white that they hand out... As previously noted I was given these for free with a new iPhone 5 but if you do want to buy them separately they will set you back £25.00 from Apple direct. Read the complete review |

Apple EarPods with Remote and Mic
by MrCrown The new apple earpods are without doubt an improvement from the last earphones by apple. The notorious 1st generation of apple earphones lasted for 3 months if you were lucky before falling apart. Sound: Lets start with the most important bit. No earphone can be worth buying unless it has good sound and although it isn't ... there main selling point, the earpods aren't a disappointment. The way the sound is streamed straight into your ear makes the acoustic very clear but echoes the bass at the same time. This makes the quality of sound higher then that of any other earphones I have tried and can compete with most headphones too! They are also a lot louder then the previous model as all the sound actually goes into your ear rather then playing it to everyone in the same room as you. The volume is also ideal for sharing an ear each and still being able to hear everything but I wouldn't advice this as the sound is strongly defined to the correct ear in songs that use panning. The one down side to the sound of the headphones is something that you only realise because the rest of the sound is amazing... They let in a lot of background sound so if you are on a train you have to turn your iPod up quite loud to hear a song clearly. I think I've covered everything there is to know about the sound of these magnificent earphones so onto comfort. Comfort and design: Apple have focused strongly on advertising that the earpods are made to fit your ear. They aren't lying! The shape fits tightly in your ear and the smoothness of it looks genuinely good. I'm sure you will of seen these before but if not then you owe it to yourself to have a look at their sleek design. I find these earphones ridiculously comfy and would strongly advise that you buy a pair. They are very light and smooth which makes wearing them feel good as oppose to the previous design which was itchy and made my ears hurt after wearing them for too long. Problems: I haven't managed to find too many problems apart from the jack doesn't work in all computers. In some older computers then they don't work due to having a microphone but if you have one of these computers you probably want to think about saving up to buying a new computer before buying new earphones. Also noise cancelling would help but that's more of an improvement for the next generation then a problem with this one. Should you buy them? If you like earphones rather then headphones then you aren't going to find any better then these for such a reasonable price. The sound quality and comfort both excel any other pair of earphones I have come across and they look really cool. The only reason I would suggest headphones instead is for the noise cancelling experience but you are looking at a lot more money for that. Overall I would strongly suggest buying these earphones and would love to say thanks to apple for making them so well. Read the complete review |

Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic
by 2012Saver Over the years, I have owned various pairs of these Apple headphones as they come with most Apple products purchased including iPhones and iPods. The headphones themselves can be bought on their own from Apple in their stores or online for the price of £25.00. The Apple headphones are largely the classic Apple white in ... colour. The earbud itself has a grey rim around the inner part, and there is also a small grey piece of plastic at the bottom of the earbud where it meets the wire. I think these headphones look stylish and definitely have the signature Apple appearance. One problem I would note with appearance is that the due to the rubbery covering on the wires of the headphones also being white, this can become dirty and discoloured easily especially if kept in pockets or handbags. I have noticed that my headphones have taken on more of a greyish tinge after a while of use. Unlike other headphones that are available, the Apple headphones are "one size fits all" and are not adjustable in any way. The ear piece of these fits quite comfortably into my ear and stays quite snug when I am sitting, standing or walking. I do find that if I am jogging, these headphones quite easily fall out, meaning I need to "jam" them into my ear a bit harder. These headphones have a microphone attached, meaning you can talk to someone on the phone while you have these in. This is a function of the headphones that I really like as I will often call a friend for a catch up while I am out for a walk, and it means I do not have to hold my phone in my hand or up to my ear. I imagine that the microphone does it's job and picks up the sound of my voice well as I have never had any complaints that someone can't hear me. The headphones also have a little remote bar attached to the wire that leads to the left ear. This has a "+" at one end and a "-" at the other which allows you to adjust the volume of the music/phone call that you are hearing. There is also a button in the middle which allows you to carry out some simple functions: -If on the phone - pressing this once will answer/hang up a call -If listening to music - pressing once will pause/restart the song, pressing twice will skip to the next song, and pressing three times will take you back to the start of the song you are currently listening to I find this remote function really handy, particularly if I am out a walk or a jog as it means I don't have to look at the screen of my iPod to stop/start/change songs. The remote itself is slim and light and is barely noticeable on the wire of your headphones, and it does not get in the way. What about the sound? Now I am no music expert and I'm not going to pretend to know about "bass" and the like. I think my music sounds absolutely fine through these headphones, and similarly during a phone call the other person's voice is clear and crisp. I have noticed a bit of a "tinny" effect if my music is up too loud, but I try to stay away from the habit of listening to music too loudly through headphones as I am aware it can really damage your ears. Quality wise, with older pairs of Apple headphones I owned I found that they started to come apart quite easily - namely the wire covering would peel back around the ear bud leaving exposed wires, or the ear bud itself would fall apart. This meant I was often replacing the headphones. I do however think in recent times the quality of Apple headphones has improved, and the pair I currently own I received with my iPhone 4 which I bought over 2 years ago. Now I will confess that I don't use these that regularly, perhaps once a week, but I still think this is a reasonable amount of time to last. Price wise I think that £25 is quite expensive for something that is a little flimsy, and I'm sure many music lovers could recommend a better quality pair of headphones for the same price. If my headphones were to break, I probably wouldn't replace them with an Apple set at full price, but I am happy to receive these when buying an Apple product. All in all I think they are a decent set of headphones that look quite stylish and have some nice little functions in the way of the remote and mic. I am therefore giving them a rating of 4 stars. Thanks for reading/rating and I hope you found my review helpful. Read the complete review |
