Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic
Advantages: Good build quality, fashionable, good control for iPhone
Disadvantages: Not a good frequency range, cannot be turned up too loud
I used to own an iPhone before I got my HTC desire, and these headphones came free with them, having owned previous iPods, I knew that no good would come from these earphones. They are considered to be very flimsy ans weak and I didn't expect any high quality from them. I thought they'd last a couple of weeks and not longer, so I was forced to use them until I tracked down a better pair of earphones to use. As you would expect they are simple earphones but these dont even have a gold plated connection, these are silver plated, but what more would you expect from a pair of FREE headphones right? Within the first two months, the rubber coating on the apple wire had stared to peel away and I could already feel them breaking. The rubber coating seems to be a distance away from the actual inner wires themselves, therefore creating a "sleeve". This is good as it means that it is not stiff which means that they will not break easily. However the wire is thin and quite rubbery, therefore very easy to peel away at, especially for those like myself who for some reason, chew on their headphone cables every now and again. However, under normal use they are actually better build quality than they first appeared to be.
The connection is silver plated and it nice and tight, this means that they will not accidentally disconnect, however it is not too stiff, all it takes is a gentle push or a gentle pull in order to insert and remove these from their connection so there is no fear that you will pull the wire loose. These fit in quite well in the ear and seem to be quite comfortable. Although they are not comfortable as the in ear pair of headphones and they do seem to fall out a lot, these are average. Note: it is only the small rubber ring around the ear buds that keep them in your ear. If you accidentally peel this away then they will fall out of your ear and the plastic ring will feel sharp and will cause discomfort. However I find that I can wear these headphones for several hours without feeling discomfort. There is also a small clip which joins the two headphones together, you slide this clip up and down to suit your need, it is also said to help with the balance and stability of the headphones to make sure that they don't fall out of your ear.
The sound quality from these headphones is not to bad. There is not much bass at all but once again you can't expect much from a free set of headphones. They are more than good enough to play music from occasionally, but again if you are an audio phile then these are probably not for you and you probably want to get your own. They do seem a bit tinny though and produce a slight metallic sound. The volume nage isn't too bad, but be warned it is very easily to blow the drivers on this pair of earphones. So if you like your music loud then these are defiantly not for you.
The remote and mic are not bad, the stiff rocker buttons mean that you do not accidentally adjust the volume or make random calls and the middle push button can also be used to control the 'ipod' function on the iphone, which means you can change the track or even hear hat is being played.
Summary: Good for temporary use however if you are into your music then its not for you
