I had been looking for a headset for sometime and after looking through the reviews for many different types of quality headset I found the corsair hs1 usb headset.
I bought this headset from Aria Tech (a quality online e-tailer) as they not only had the cheapest price around they also have AAA class support via there own support staff and the Aria forums where I have come to get all my technical help and support. Also if you post 50 times a month or more you get free next day delivery so I can't lose, I post more than fifty times anyway when I'm getting help with all things pc. They also give away £5000 worth of prizes every month. :)
When the headset arrived, which it did promptly with the free next day delivery, I saw that the packaging even looked quality and it had kept my items safe. I quickly opened up the box to get to my headset and it looks great, corsair have done a really good job here of making it look quality and techy yet having an understated look instead of the mad ultra high tech bells and whistles, LEDs everywhere that you get with certain other brands. Basically these would fit in anywhere.
Once I'd installed the drivers (which was simple following the corsair instructions) I plugged them in and gave them a listen. The sound was great, I could here every little noise from raindrops hitting the pavement to the big explosions. The 50mm drivers corsair have used are capable of giving the heavy basier sounds needed for pc gaming and the more subtle tones needed for if you were listening to some music or watching a movie.
The software which comes with the headset is great also and allows you to change every little detail. You can also use the dolby headphone to give the headset virtual surround which works and sounds great.
The mic is one of the clearest I've used and is perfect for gaming and skype etc.
You can get extra cushion pads for the ears when/if the others get abit worn aswell which will keep the headset in good condition at minimal expense.
This headset is a usb one but I've just seen that corsair have brought out a 3.5mm jack version aswell (and cheaper) so you have both options now.
Overall: Great headset.
If you buy from Aria you can take advantage of their low prices and their great customer support/forums.
