This is the PS3 headset which I have had from the start and I will not consider changing from it... just yet.
I bought this for around £10 in GAME when i first got my PS3 so that I could talk to my friends online. To begin using it I had to pair it with my PS3. This was probably the most difficult thing I have had to do with the headset. To pair it, you need to set the headset to its pairing mode and then you have to enter a code on the PS3. This sounds simple enough but to get to the pairing mode you hold down the power button fro about 10 seconds. Little did I know that you had to do this when it was off. Therefore, I was turning it on, holding it down and after 3 seconds it would switch off. After 10 seconds nothing was happening. Surely it is understandable that if you want to pair a device you would want it to be on (that was my logic in turning it on to begin with). it isn't really an issue with the device but more on the user manual that it came with.
Once that was completed, the headset was great through.
It fits around either ear and the speaker sits behind a foam cover which is resting next to your ear (not inside it - I hate speakers inside my ears - it makes it uncomfortable after a while). The microphone is on the end of an arm which will then go to the side of your mouth. What i never understood about this microphone was why the marketing team seemed to be really excited about it pivoting 20 degrees to or away from your mouth. If you did pivot it to wards your mouth it just spring back to its old position usually and even if it did stick, there is no difference in sound quality whatsoever - making it a useless feature.
I do not know myself how the sound quality is, but nobody has ever complained about not being able to hear me or of any annoying background noise like I have experienced with other people's headsets in the past. it doesn't have the issue that other have where the speaker is too loud or too close to the microphone so you get a infinite loop of the same sound being played over and over again.
The speaker quality is pretty good however this is difficult to tell as it also depends on the other people's microphones. I rarely have issues understanding people from a poor sound so I suppose it is good. Being only a mono speaker it is only good for speech though not for game sounds.
Unfortunately, the earpiece on my headset is broken, the bit holding it on seems to have came out from the inside of the headset. The earpiece is still attached but only just and this means that it hangs a little further away from my ear and mouth as it used to when it wasn't broken.
Also, a plastic cover for the light on the headset used to come off frequently when I first used it and therefore I superglued it on. it has been perfectly fine since and hasn't bother me but really it should have happened.
Despite these build quality issues, I am strangely in love with this headset as once you get over them it is so comfortable to wear and is extremely effective.
Me and my boyfriend got this in Game for £15. We use it on the PS3 to comminucatie while playing zombies on Call Of Duty. The sound is crystal clear and it picks up every sound imagenable. The headset really helps you to communicate to other players, if your serious about gaming. It is a must buy!
The microphone does it's job, although there are afew flaws we find annoying about this product.
Some of the exterior parts of the microphone constantly comes off, although it works perfectly fine without it.
When we are in a long game and the battery goes, we have to wear the microphone while it is charging via the USB.
The headset itself is really light weight, you dont even notice its there half the time. When you want to talk to someone privetly, and dont want anyone else to hear (via the headset) you just press the 'on/off' button once and it goes into mute mode. Press it again and its back to normal.
When you buy this product you recive 2 earhooks so you have the choice to wear the headset either on your left or right ear. The headset itself is about 100mm long, and 31mm wide.
Setting it up first time was easy, you have to hold the 'on' buttom for atleast 10 seconds. We have had this product for about 5 months now and on the odd occasion the microphone shows up as if its working but none of our online friends can hear us. We have to reassign it each time which is rather annoying.
Appart from that, this product does its job. Good buy.
I got a Geotech Blutooth Headset free in a 'online essential pack' with my playstation 3 and tested it out almost immediately.
It is very clear in both direction, that is you can hear the sound/voice very well and the other person that you are talking to can hear your voice very well too. As it describes, it really does have amazing sound quality.
It is wireless too, which is a great fact about playstation 3 and the gadgets to go with it. Instead of having wired headphones and maybe even a separate wired microphone (or a 2 in 1 headphone and mic) you become 'stuck'. You can hardly move your head without getting tangled in wires, the last thing you want when playing a game! With this wireless headset you have none of that! you can go and make a cuppa without taking it off your ear and because I live in a small house I can carry on talking to the other person even when I do go and make a cuppa. Bluetooth technology has around 10 metres range meaning you dont have to point it at the receiver or stay reallly close to it.
Another thing I tried was to connect it to my phone, I wasn't sure it would work as it says Playstation3, but it worked!! I didnt have one of these for my mobile phone but now I do! I love gadgets that have different uses and this one does i can use it for my phone or my playstation 3! I don't know if it would work with all mobiles but I can't see why not as long as your phone has the bluetooth technology.
Overall, I think this is a really good product, in style (even if you do look like your from star wars), comfort, quality and price! As I said I got mine free but I would definitely pay £20 for this if I hadn't!
After buying my Playstation 3 and Call of Duty I ventured online to play the rest of the world. A lot of my friends had been playing the game for a few weeks and had kitted themselves out with the full headset and gaming package. When playing online it's nice to be able to chat to your mates and if you're serious about your gaming, talk to each other about team tactics.
I wasn't too sure about which one to buy and bought this one from Curry's for under £20. I have to admit it's been a great investment! Firstly the microphone is really sensitive good and picks up everything though this can be bad if you've got particularly loud background noise. The sound in the earphone is also very very good and as for comfort I hardly feel I'm wearing it even after 2 hours of gameplay.
The battery also lasts ages and charges quickly too so that's nothing to worry about either.
I think this is a great product with great value and essential for some great fun online!
