Advantages: Really cheap

Disadvantages: A bit fiddly, sound quality isn't amazing

Recently I invested in a bluetooth headset so that I could partake in voice communications when playing on the Playstation Network. Rather than spending around £30 for the official Sony headset, I decided to look for a budget option, thus saving some hard-earned cash. After a quick search online I came across the 'Nexus Talk Nano Pro' - which has the unbelievably low price of only £4.29 from Amazon.

Design & Appearance

The Talk Nano Pro is probably the smallest headset on the market, measuring roughtly 3 x 1.5 cms. The size inevietably means that the device is a bit fiddly to operate - especially the volume buttons on the top which require a firm press with the fingernails. The product can be worn via a flimsy wire which fits around the ear - it's a little tricky to put on, but it just about does the job.

Before using, the Talk Nano Pro needs to be charged for two hours - this is done by attaching one end of the USB cable (included) to the device itself, and the other into the port of your computer or games system. Whilst charging, a red light illuminates on the headset, and subsequently goes out when complete. In operation, i've found that the battery will last for around three hours, and the estimated standby time is approximately 140 hours.

Connecting to your devices

The headset can be paired not only with the Playstation3, but also with bluetooth enabled phones and other gaming systems. The pairing process is fairly simply, and the following technique describes how to connect with your phone;

1. Make sure that the Talk Nano headset is turned off
2. Activate the bluetooth function on your phone
3. Press and hold the multifunction button on the Talk Nano (the large button on the back) until the blue and red lights flash in unison
4. Activate the bluetooth search function on the phone, then select 'Talknano' from the list
5. Enter the default passcode '0000' to pair the devices

Performance & Final Word

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from the sound quality of the Talk Nano - but it's actually quite respectable. No, it's not as clear as the larger, pricier headsets on the market, but its good enough to hear what others are saying without too much distortion.

Overall, this tiny bluetooth headset offers very good value for money - for just over £4 the fiddly nature of the controls isn't really worth complaining about. The only real negative is the flimsiness of the product - i'm not sure that it would survive being dropped - however, handle with care and the Talk Nano Pro may be just the ticket. Recommended.

Summary: The ultimate value headset
