As of lately I have been using up all of my free minutes on my mobile contract and it has just been getting a bit pricey. I have had Skype on my laptop for ages but as of late I have been getting everyone I know to use it with having friends and family all far away it is a fantastic way to communicate. However, my laptop is not the best and until I keep saving and get a brilliant one I have had to use a laptop with a microphone built in but that is not very good so I have to bend over to the laptop to be heard on Skype. It is just getting too annoying so I decided to invest in a decent headset which would hopefully make my Skype lifestyle a LOT easier.
Now, I was flicking through the Argos catalogue and was shocked at the price of these head phones but of course wanted something not too cheap as I wanted a decent quality microphone. There was a Microsoft headset but it was quite expensive and then I spotted this Philips model. Now, to look at it really does have huge head phones but I suppose at least I hoped this would sit more comfortably on my head. There is also a small microphone attached to the head set which is almost like what they wear in call centres so that you have sound and microphone all in the one head set and then it saves you worrying about holding a microphone.
These headphones are black in colour and have a supposed good sound performance as well as a rotary microphone and in-line volume control. The easy thing is that when you want to put these on, you just do it like you would a headband and these sit easily on your head with no problems. I didn't find these slipped off at all and being quite a wide head band it means that they will sit better on the head. Also the actual head phones sit perfectly on my ears so that they are in the right place and being quite cushioned around the speaker, it means they are not at all irritating.
Now, these are quite light in weight which I like as looking at them you may think otherwise but they seem to be light enough. So, to get these up and running, really is very straight forward they have a long enough cable on them so you just need to take the 2 points and one plugs into the microphone point and the other into the headphone point and then you are literally ready to use them. There is no need for any kind of installation disc and as you plug them in you should be able to use these right away whether it be to chat on a messenger or another reason may be that you could use these for online gaming.
Now, when I made my first Skype call, I was actually quite interested to see the difference in the call quality. Right away it was so much easier, I could hear sound very clearly and the sound quality was very sharp as promised on the box. Also, the microphone was perfect, you could adjust the mic a little to suit you best and you don't even need to have it too close to your mouth and it seems to pick up sound really well which is always good as you don't want to be holding the microphone right up to your mouth. I am very happy with these headphones and although a bit big, they have made my calls on Skype a lot easier.
I don't really think I can come up with any negative as they literally have done everything I wanted which is why it is worth paying a bit more for a good brand like Philips. They only come in the colour black but with the box they come in they are so easy to put away when not using frequently. I found the volume control on the cable very useful as if the volume was too loud it saved touching any settings on my laptop and I could just roll down the volume easily on the control and it was turned down right away. I really couldn't recommend these enough for the price and I am sure I will have these for a while.
Now, I have been to Amazon to do some price researching and for one I am shocked as they are not the cheapest with their lowest price at £17.56. Argos is where I purchased mine from and they only cost me £12.99 from here which to be honest is probably the most I would have been willing to pay for them anyway. They were sold out in many branches though and finally got my hands on a pair but I'd recommended checking the website first and reserving before making a wasted trip to a store and finding they are out of stock.
If you do like the sound oh these then Philips have their UK website http://www.philips.co.uk/ . If you search the item number in the search box then you will get the page for this item.
