Advantages: You can get back more than you put in

Disadvantages: none that I can see

When we first saw an advertisement for HSA we looked at it a couple times and that saying of if it looks too good to be true then it is came to mind. This though, if you choose the right option is the exception to the rule.

Anyway we looked this up and decided to go for it.

Very simply every week you pay the amount of the option you choose to HSA payable monthly through direct debit and you can claim cash back for certain treatments.

You can join singly, as a couple or for a family. Family can go on yours up to the age of 18 when they can get their own healthcare benefits.

We pay £17.32 a month for the two of us.

First of all that sounded like "another out going direct debit from our bank account" but when we stopped and worked things out we realised that we would be claiming more than we pay!

For that amount we can both claim up to £70 a year for dental cover. If you go twice a year to the dentist even to an NHS one you could easily get the bill for that.

Next is optical cover. That is up to £70. Here again if you have to wear glasses you will know that you can easily pay that amount.

For consultatiohn/allergy testing cover it is up to £150

£50 for physiotherapy/ostepathy/chiropractic/acupunture/ho meopathy cover.

Other benefits you get is for hospital cover. If you have to stay in hospital over night.

Also maternity cover.

The moment you start with HSA you are covered and dont have to wait a couple of months before you can claim.

The exception to this is maternity cover. You have to have belonged for 10 months but then if you are thinking of starting a family £300 per child would come in very handy.

They give you a claim form in your joining pack. The form is very easy to fill in just putting what you are claiming for, how much and enclosing your receipt.

Allow 2 working days and the 3rd or 4th the payment will be in your bank. No hassle no messing about. They will then send you a letter saying that such and such has been put into your bank and you receive a new claims form for the next time.

When you first join and they have received your first payment they will usually send you a £15 marks and spencers voucher.

If you want anymore info on this they can be reached on 0800 107 0386,

Choose your options carefully and you do gain and not loose by joining. They do say they are a non profiting group and by our experience I agree and would recommend them.

Summary: get your treatment paid for
