Advantages: The speedy payments
Disadvantages: None
I joined HSA when i saw an advert in the paper giving away £25 worth of Marks and Spencer vouchers if i signed up. I had been meaning to sign to a health cash plan to save a bit of money, so i was very happy when i saw what good offer HSA were offering.
** How easy was it to sign up**
I signed up online, and it was a very easy process. It was quick and simple, and it only took me about 5 minutes. You then get sent an email confirmation and all your documentation is sent out in the post for you.
You can join HSA singly, as a couple or a family. If you have children they can go on your account until the age of 18. Once they reach 18 they will be able to get their own health care plan.
**Why i use HSA**
The HSA offers cash back on everyday health costs. You can select a number of different levels, level 1 £2.25 weekly, level 2 £3.35 weekly, level 3 £4.50 weekly and level 4 £6.75 weekly. The higher the level, the more cash back you get back.
I have level 3 cover plan, which costs me £19.50 per month.
In return, i get;
Dental (£120 max), optical (£120 max), which offer 100% payout.
Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Homeopathy, Chiropody - 75% payout.
Maternity benefit - £200 per child
Consultation and Allergy testing - 75% payout.
Hospital Benefit (per night) - £15 per night. 20 nights max
European cover - upto 28 days
The maternity cover is only payed out once you have gone past the 10 month qualifying period. Once you have you will be paid out the cashback on the birth of the child.
If you look at what you get for the amount you pay out for month, its worth the money if you use all the above.
I wear glasses, so i buy myself a new pair of glasses each year for around £120 and i get them for free, and because i usually get my glasses from specsavers i can get 2 pairs for the same price.
You don't have to get the amount of cover i have, i get this because i find its the best for me with the amount of dental cover you get as well.
** How easy is payout**
SUPER QUICK. I was amazed how quickly HSA payout. When i joined i opted for the direct debt payout direct to my bank, however you can chose to have it sent by cheque. You are sent a claim form when you first receive your joining pack, so once you are ready to make your first claim all you need to do is fill out the form and send back. On the envelope it has priority claim, so you know its going to be processed quickly. The form is very easy to fill out, you must make sure you include how much your claiming, and include your receipts. Your payment will not be processed unless they have your receipts.
My payment was rececived in my bank account within 2-3 days. You will receive a letter to say how much has been paid and it will also include a new claim form, ready for your next claim.
** Customer Service Team**
I had several queries regarding my claim, and everytime i called customer service were all very friendly and always very happy to help with any questions you have.
** Overall **
To make sure you get the best out of your money, make sure you join the right plan for you.
Summary: Great way spread the cost out so your not paying out all in one go for health cover

- 03/11/08 I often think that you could acheive much the same by putting the money in a pot to save up for those expenses. If you're unfortunate to need hospital treatment than you might come out on top but, even as a glasses wearer, I'm not sure I would get anywhere near £120 of dental treatment in a year etc... (having said that, I'm bound to go and break a tooth now!) |
