Advantages: FREE Health Check, FREE Will Writing, FREE Hotel Rooms

Disadvantages: Errr - can't think of any!

I joined United Patients over a year ago and was recently boasting about how great they are to a friend of mine who promptly Google’d them and found this derisory review and showed it to me. I don’t usually get involved in posting reviews on the net and, having read about DooYoo “reward miles” for writing lengthy reviews, I suspect that this was the writer’s motivation in writing the review.

Of course its possible that this guy’s experience was as written, but in my case I have to say that I have nothing but praise for United Patients, the services they offer and, in particular, the way in which their staff have been trained to deal with queries and requests on the telephone.

Within 4 weeks of joining them I had already been for my free health check (which was very comprehensive and not at all something MY G.P. would have done for me) and also had a will-writer attend my home and prepare a new will for me – considering my wife had recently paid over £350 to her solicitor to have a will drawn up for her, my United Patients policy had already paid for itself more than twice over.

PLUS, they hadn’t had a penny out of me yet because they gave me the first 30 days of cover for free, but unlike other companies that don’t let you use their services during the ‘free’ period, United Patients were actively encouraging me to use all of theirs. They even had a special promo whereby if I stayed in any of their hotels (the rooms were free but I had to eat there) by the end of the month, they paid £25 toward the cost of my food too!!!

Thank god I haven’t been ill so haven’t had to make a claim yet but at the end of the day the way I see it, I have easily had over £500 worth out of them already and have barely paid £120 in premiums!!! Now if THAT isn’t value for money I don’t know what is!

In my experience in the past, insurance companies never argue when a claim is genuine – they cant be bothered, they simply pay up. When my flat was burgled I got paid out within weeks without any bother because it was an undeniable event and I have no reason to think that United Patients wouldn’t pay up immediately if you put in a valid claim – its just that when people are a bit ‘grey’ about their previous illnesses and stuff, then obviously the insurance company has every right to ask if you were ill before you joined – that’d be like smashing up your car and then taking out insurance for it and trying to get the insurance company to pay for it!!!

“Disunited Patients”??? Hardly…I’d say more like “Delighted Patients”.
