Advantages: Quite cheap, High payouts, Quick claims settelement

Disadvantages: Smaller range of benefits, Check the small print

The WPA Mini-cash provides a more limited range of benefits when compared to other health care cash back schemes, this is ideal if you already have private medical insurance or want more for regular items such as dental and optical care.

I currently pay £10 per month, if your older i.e. 40-64 I think its about £13 per month. In return you get 75% of the amount for each benefits listed below. You can also pay less and only receive 50% back, again up to the limits below.

Year 1 Year 2
Dental 150 200
Optical 150 200 (will pay for eye tests, eye scans, glasses, contacts and perhaps more as well)
Consultancy 200 300
Complementary
Treatments 300 400
Health
Screening 200 (every two years)
Total 800 1300

I signed up to the scheme in February this year and recently submitted a claim for dental work for about £115 this was paid within 7 days and you can even track the process of your claim online.

This scheme probably wont suit everyone but if your finding it difficult to get an NHS dentist, are single (these schemes usually are biased in favour of families) or are expecting some higher than normal routine dental or optical costs, then it is probably worth it. Also the bi-annual health screening benefit pretty much covers the cost of the scheme before you take into account anything else.

Like all these schemes the devil is in the detail, for example replacement glasses can only be obtained under certain conditions. Also the benefits are lower in year 1, the year when I guess most people will be making the largest claims. Also in common with other schemes there is a 3 month wait before you can start claiming and it doesn't cover pre-existing medical (i.e. non dental or optical) conditions.

Overall I think the scheme is good value for money and so far I've got back £50 more than I've paid in within the first 12 months. Also since writing the first edition of thi
s review I've claimed for optical care, although I didnt' need any glasses I did go for a complete eye scan as part of a test, this (despite doubling the cost) was paid without any problem.
