Another topical review! This must be the sliver lining to the rotten flu.

Benylin is a well respected brand that has been around for a long time and produces a range of medicines including the Non drowsy cough medicine that I am reviewing.

The product I have is the same as the picture but the box is a little different in that mine is red but other than that its pretty much the same and states on the box that it has a "soothing effect and provides deep penetrating relief" (I know it's childish but I did laugh out loud reading that, I know I'm terrible...)
Benelyin is designed to work deep down to loosen phlegm, clear bronchial congestion and make your cough more productive

The bottle has the usual screw top but its not a child protective lid which is just a well for me as I can never open those. The medicine comes with the usual white spoon with the 5ml side and the 2.5ml side.

When I opened the bottle the first thing that I noticed was the smell, it was not as strong as some that I have tried but it did remind me of the horrid tasting medicine of my childhood.
The medicine has a not unpleasant taste and the menthol it the strongest part of the taste but it does disappear within a few minutes and you are just left with a soothing sensation.

The medicine can be used by adults and children over 12 years of age, you can take two 5ml spoonfuls four times a day, the medicine does not have to be taken with food or anything like that just space out the doses to give it a chance to work

When I took the medicine it had a really soothing feel on my throat and it felt coated but not in an uncomfortable way it just felt as though the harsh scratchy feel had disappeared and this feeling lasted for a good half hour, I have to say that the cough I had didn't really improve after the first dose and it was not until the fourth dose that I noticed that my cough was not as hard as it had been and it felt looser and was easier to clear and I was not needing to cough lots to clear it just once or twice.

Without wanting to be slightly gross after the second day I noticed that when I was coughing the phlegm was coming straight up and my chest felt much clearer and I was able to breathe a lot easier without needing to take a big deep breath every time and after three or flour days my cough had all but disappeared.

I think that it's a brilliant cough medicine all in all, it really started to loosen up my cough within the first day and even after the first dose it made my throat feel much more comfortable and the cough lost its harshness. Within a day of taking the medicine I was able to bring up the phlegm easily and my cough was much more productive. So if you are suffering with a chesty cough I would really recommended it

The medicine can be purchased at most supermarkets and chemists, I actually bought mine in home bargains for just £1.00 but its usually about £2.00
