I have used Benylin in the past but I wouldn't use it now, as I know more since I used to take it. I actually know of a couple of people who are addicted to Benylin, and take it because it makes them feel drowsy and helps them to sleep, one person is finding it almost impossible to come of and goes through about 4 bottles of it a week! If you have a bad cough that persists for more than a few days you should visit your doctor. I am actually against using cough medicines and I don't use them at all now and won't give them to my children either. When I was a teen I remember I drank a small bottle of Benylin cough medicine just to get a cheap high. I was out of it for three days or more. Having suffered from asthma for almost 37 years, I think I am a guru on Benylin. Personally I have used it for 30 years to my knowledge. Back in the old days, you got Benylin in large brown bottles prescibed by the doctor. Benylin was the only thing that ever stopped me coughing, as soon as the cough starts up I still reach for the trusted Benylin, but only the original recipe works. It was taken off presciption and now sold over the counter. A small bottle costing a high price. In my mind such a good product should be still on prescription and be available through the doctor. This is not a good choice for you if you like non-drowsy medicine, Benylin actually contains more of the same active ingrediant than is found in over the counter sleeping pills! However I love Benylin, I have been using it for coughs since childhood and have always found it effective (but maybe that is because it knocks you out for a few hours). Benylin Childrens Tickly Cough medicine works wonders!! I have just popped out to buy my child some medicine for his poorly cough and stumbled across this in ASDA. The medicina cost around 2 pounds 50 and comes ina small box, within the box there is a measuring spoon (2.5ml and 5ml - one each end) and a glass jar containing the medicine itself. The medicine has a screw on safety cap to prevent any unwanted hands inside of it (i.e. baby!! lol) and has directions for use stuck via a label on the bottle.
