When I was a teen I remember I drank a small bottle of Benylin cough medicine just to get a cheap high. I was out of it for three days or more. I have no idea how I heard that this cough medicine can give you a buzz. People must be very bored to experiment with stuff like that. I have heard that mouth wash, cleaning products, and even urine, can get you high. Yes I said urine, how DISGUSTING, but very true! A few years later I started using cocaine, then I quit cold turkey.

Then I started experimenting with gravol for about a year. I wanted something to relax me, since I quit using drugs and alcohol. Somebody mentioned to me that gravol works like an anxiety pill. WRONG! It made my nerves worse than what they were. I took the gravol for a week straight, and from there I was hooked. I was taking up to 10-15 pills a night so I could get that same feeling I had when I first started using them. I later found out that I was addicted to the Dimenhydrinate that is in the gravol, the same drug that is in the Benylin cough mixture.

When I tried to quit abusing them, I began having panick attacks. Coming off of gravol was worse than coming off of cacaine for me. I would get the shakes, then I would get hot and cold flashes, sweat, and I would see things that were not really there. I never thought in a million years that I could get addicted of all things, gravol. I remember a few years ago, that the pharmacists had to put the gravol behind the counter because kids were using them to get high, I couldn't believe how stupid those teens were. Then I turned out to be a stupid 22 year old.

MY EXPERIENCE ON GRAVOL

- by the time I finished a thought, I forgot
what I was thinking about.
- trying to write it down didn't help because
I forgot what I was writing about halfway
through.
- I took it with a friend once (for the high)
and our conversation was so impaired, that
it was impossible to
string a coherent
sentence.
- worse yet: you can see in your friends face
what your own face looks like.
- possible drooling (not a first date drug)
- skin is extremely sensitive: if something
rubs you, you may feel like there are bugs
crawling on your skin. After the first few
panic checks, you learn to ignore it.
- I wanted to do something like cleaning,
but I had to struggle to maintain my
balance.
- difficulty urinating (have no idea why)
- lasts up to 6 hours - 24 hours for the drug
to pass through your system.

So I hope this information I gave of my own experience with this drug, will change someone's mind, if they want to try it. And I hope some parents who have teens, read this, so maybe they can see the signs before it is to late.

I have been off of them for some time now, but it was a battle to quit. And the only way to do so is to go cold turkey, and go through the withdrawals.
