Having drank far too much and eaten too many Heinz backed bean pizza’s (very nice do try one) I have been feeling a bit ‘floopy’ (technical term for crappy). I felt tired all the time and looked like I’d just been dug up. A bit of research suggested I try the Bio Light 3 day Detox. Most of the alternatives to this meant a 7 day course (not bloody likely), or regimes that were more specifically for loosing weight. Whilst the Bio Light has been included in the diet section of Dooyoo this is not the primary function of the plan. The blurb states the detox can ‘Provide your digestive system with a kick start and when taken in conjunction with the enclosed eating plan can better help your body to cope with eliminating toxins and stubborn fatty deposits.’ Aside from the ‘stubborn fatty deposits’ which made me sound like the hob on the cooker this was exactly what I was looking for, and lets face it if it didn’t really work I believed that it might and that’s half the battle. So I trundled off to Holland and Barratt parted with, gasp £12.99, and walked home clutching my 200ml bottle. I read the leaflet and it recommends a diet of certain veg and fruit, brown rice, wholemeal pasta and certain types of meat or Quorn (or interestingly on the exterior of the box ‘Quark’ – was he not in Deep Space Nine?). So off to Asda to purchase my veg – I hate veg and tried to figure out how I could live for three days on mushrooms and onions, the only two listed I felt I could actually eat. Strangely peas, potatoes, kidney beans and anything else with any flavour were not included. So I’m set up with my brown goo in a bottle, lime flavour apparently but tastes like flat coke. You mix 1/3 of the bottle per day with 2 2/3 pints of filtered water and sip throughout the day. You can have 3 meals, breakfast of some weird concoction they suggest on the
leaflet of any whole-wheat cereal, and a dinner and lunch of a protein, pasta or rice or similar as suggested and veg. Prohibited foods include bread (apart from rye bread) salt, meat flavourings, cakes, biscuits, processed foods, coffee and alcohol. Yum. The first day went quite well. The liquid gave me a headache, but this was one of the possible side effects along with spots, fluid retention and a change in bowl habits (mine has now started gambling). This I could cope with but the food… god the food. I hate anything bland, thank god you’re allowed garlic, there wasn’t a vampire in the county who was safe I covered everything in it just to get some flavour. The second day I would have stepped over a dying man to get a snickers and nearly killed my boyfriend but I was feeling better. My stomach was flatter and I felt a bit more bouncy. I had lost 2 pounds, although this wasn’t my aim. The third day I got a spot, I never get spots but I took small comfort in the fact this meant it was working. The constant diet of veg was playing havoc with my digestive system but I felt even better than on day two. I was desperate for a cup of coffee and I don’t even drink coffee so I feel sorry for anyone who is a caffeine addict the withdrawal must be hellish. Overall I think it was a success. You are supposed to follow the eating plan for another four day, but this is to standardise any weight loss and I’m not concerned about my weight. So for the safety of those around me I went back to my old habits. This worked for me but I’m not so sure about anyone who wants to loose weight by following a detox plan. The leaflet recommends following two courses of the plan followed by four days of healthy eating for any significant weight loss. You would have to be a brave person to put up with that for ten days. I’m not that brave. But I was able to run to Asda faster for a pizza. <
