Advantages: You will lose weight
Disadvantages: And maybe your health
My partner has tried every diet going over the past few years and I want to warn everyone about the possible side-effects of one of the more radical diets out there. The diet is commonly known as the 'soup diet' and consists primarily of a home made soup which is supposedly fat burning. I am not going to print the exact recipe or what the diet consists of because I don't want to be held responsible for any adverse reactions people may have. The soup include cabbage or onions, peppers, celery and vegetable stock, and you are supposed to eat/drink as much as you like (it is vile so you won't want to drink it!) and in fact they say the more you drink the more weight you will lose. It is a hospital diet, which is prescribed to very obese patients waiting for operations, where their weight may cause complications. This means you average dieter who wants to lose a couple of stone maybe, is not really the ideal 'victim'! It does actually work, you will lose weight, probably about 8-12 lbs a week but the problem is if you stay on the diet too long (and it is addictive when you see the results) that you will suffer adverse reactions. My partner was lucky in that she only felt faint and that was enough for her to stop the diet, but a GP told her she would have started to suffer from malnutrition if she had continued. Overall if you do get a chance to follow this diet, then I strongly urge you not to continue for more than a week at the most.
