Premium Review Children and Baby Vegetarians: In Defence Of My "Retarded" And "Malnourished ... (690 words)

Having just read Dyana35226’s opinion in the Pregnancy and Vegetarianism section here, I felt compelled to offer an alternative view. Her opinion says that following a vegetarian diet in pregnancy “causes retardation, causes malnutrition” and is “harmful to the fetus”. This is scaremongering and untrue. The vegetarian diet is fine for pregnant women to follow, babies and children of all ages. A vegan diet is usually not recommended, as dairy produce provides an important part of what the body needs, but we are talking about vegetarianism here – no meat, no fish, no animal fats, but yes, we eat cheese, yoghurt, eggs and so on. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review We don't eat meat do we Mummy? (921 words)

Little Treasure has been a veggie since she was weaned. I'm practicaly sure she has never eaten any meat products except for the time little Harry age 2 tried to feed her a ham butty at a birthday party. LT bless her took a bite then looked at it and shouted in a booming voice "We don't eat meat do we Mummy?" My reasons for becoming a veggie were not the I don't want to kill animals or I just don't like the taste of meat reasons that others might give. My main reason was basically after yet another meat related health scare exposed in the media I thought enough was enough. I was a veggie during my pregnancy and had a very healthy ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Children and Baby Vegetarians: This is for all vegetarian mums who think you're doing t ... (857 words)

I am a vegetarian. I was a vegetarian child, a vegetarian baby, hell I was a vegetarian embryo. My mum was a single parent, still at university when she had me, the kind of woman who is at the front of every campaign and rally that they believe in, she even had me in a women's hospital, I was the last baby born there because she was occupying it before it was knocked down. She was very much the kind of person who totally believed that it was an evil thing to eat meat, and even worse to feed it to an innocent child. So I was born and raised as vegetarian as they come. Now, a lot of people out there are the opposite, and say that making your child ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Yes vegetarians can eat dairy produce! (351 words)

I wish to educate people in the fact that vegetarianism is not bad or unhealthy. When shopping I am always shocked at the lack of people who understand what a vegetarian is. After asking if a specific cheese was vegetarian the assistant smirked and replied "I thought vegetarians couldn't eat cheese!" sadly that is the response by many uneducated people! How frustrating is that kind of comment, if that were true would I be asking? Here is my overview of what a vegetarian can eat: Anything that isn't flesh of any sort of living animal that is vegetables, dairy produce (with no animal fats), fruit, pulses etc. I also would like ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Children and Baby Vegetarians: Is it fair to limit your children? (375 words)

s I read in the paper yesterday about a pair of parents convicted of manslaughter after the death of their 9-month-old child. The child in question had been fed only on fruit products and had not managed to get enough nutrients from these. A baby of 9 months needs food from a variety of sources, one of the most important being milk. The parents of this child have to live with the fact that a misapplied vegan diet had killed their child. Does that mean that baby’s need to have meat in their diets? I do not believe this to be the case. When feeding your child you must give them all the nutrients they need. These include vitamins, minerals, ...  Read the complete review
