EAR Classic Soft Earplugs
Advantages: Simple to use, fit comfortably, feel nice, block out lots of noise.
Disadvantages: Can someones fall out.
Until last year I never had a problem with noises bothering me. Then for some reason that all changed. I gradually started to notice my downstairs neighbours noise more and more. I spoke to them several times, to ask them to turn down music, then the bass on their stereo, to which they happily obliged. Then I had a conversation with them one night in the hall about how I could hear their footsteps (at least I believe it is footsteps) and they said that on one of the occasions I could hear them they weren't in. Now this is unusual as I know it isn't the neighbour that I share a floor, and hall, with as she was out at work five nights in a row and I could still hear the noise. Obviously I didn't want to keep knocking as the downstairs neighbours are pleasant and no-one likes to be a moaner!
To try and combat this little problem I started to buy myself ear plugs. I have tried several different brands now, with mixed results, and the ones I have been using recently are these Ear classic earplugs. I paid £7.00 for 50 pairs from Amazon with free delivery, a price that is still available right now.
Obviously not sleeping because of noise is an annoyance for me and this is the main reason that I decided to start buying and using earplugs. These ear plugs are single use to allow me to dispose of them after using them without worrying about transmitting any germs in to my ears. This is important for me as last year I suffered from a large bout of ear infections that just kept recurring. This was not due to using ear plugs, as I wasn't during this time, but was infact down to a problem with the water quality in my shower! I like single use ear plugs as I don't have to worry about keeping ear plugs somewhere clean and hygienic and instead I can just open a packet of two earplugs as and when needed and then throw them in the bin afterwards.
These ear plugs are made from foam and they are bright yellow, as you can probably see from the picture. In order to get these ear plugs in my ear I just squeeze and roll the ear plugs, with clean hands of course, between two fingers, before inserting one ear plug in my ear and then pressing down on the end gently to ensure that the ear plug opens up in my ear and fills my ear cavity without coming out. The ear plugs will bounce back to their original shape and therefore close the gap in my ear blocking out most external sound.
With regards to the sounds that I can hear this does block out my downstairs neighbour. Whether I can hear their banging or some other external noise outside my flat this is blocked out completely. I can still hold a conversation with my husband, albeit with him speaking a little louder than normal, and sometimes I can hear my own heartbeat if I am sitting there not talking or making any noise. I am still able to hear my television, by turning it up at least double the volume I would normally have it at, but if I am wanting to watch television desperately and yet block out outside noises I just put the subtitles on and read instead of listening. This isn't really an issue though as often I am putting these ear plugs in to allow me to sleep. I am still able to hear my alarm in the morning, if I need an alarm, and the ear plugs do not leave my ears hurting when I wake up, however I have found on 3 out of the last 10 or so occasions that my ear plugs have come out in the night. I am not necessarily losing both ear plugs on each occasion but at least one is coming out and on one of these occasions I was then woken up by a car alarm outside which was quite loud and no doubt wouldn't have been heard if the ear plugs had of stayed in. I am not sure if this is because I am pulling them out or because they are working their way free, however this hasn't happened with any other ear plugs that I can recall.
Now I am giving these ear plugs 4 out of 5 stars. They are simple to use, simple to fit and they are comfortable to wear. They block out the external noises that annoy me but obviously they have fallen out a few times now which is an annoyance, to say the least, and on one occasion I only found one of the ear plugs the following afternoon when my cat was playing with it and chewing it - not nice!
Summary: Reasonable ear plugs from EAR.
