Earfit Comfort Foam Earplugs
Advantages: Cheap and I got an extra one!!
Disadvantages: Not that good.
I don't always get to sleep early but that does not bother me as long as I do not wake up too early. Over the last couple of weeks or so there has been work being carried out to a number of houses whose gardens back on to ours and this has been causing a problem.
Although there are laws about the hours that can be worked a lot of the time they were beginning before 7 o clock. While that would not be a problem for a lot of people, I work from home a lot so often work until midnight or a little later and then get up around 8.30 to 9. I decided that rather than complain I would get some earplugs and see if I could deal with the problem myself.
I went to the local chemist so was not expecting a lot of choice but the ones they had were only £1.99 and I was assured would be good enough for the purpose I had for them so I bought them. I opened them as soon as I got home and despite them claiming that there were 2 pairs of 2 earplugs I got an extra one. There were 5 little yellow pieces of foam in the box along with a white, round plastic holder. They did not look to be very comfortable but only time would tell.
Time told. They were not comfortable. Rather than sleep in them I put them by the side of the bed until I was woken up by the building work. The first time I tried them I thought it could have been that I was still a little bit sleepy and had not done it correctly. A little later I tried again and still could not get them in so that they a) felt comfortable to use or b) stopped the noise keeping me awake.
The instructions are on the pack in English, Italian and German. You need to role the cylindrical piece of foam into a thinner cylinder and then put it into the ear. It is suggested that the ear is pulled forward and them once the plug is in place, it can be released and it will expand to fill the cavity. To remove they should be twisted gently and pulled out. The second time they did fit a little better but they still were not much of a barrier against the noise.
I have tried them a few times since then but have not had a great deal of success. On occasions I do seem to get them into a position that reduces the noise, but they are not a thing I would buy again. The box claims that they can be washed up to three times and I have washed a few of them once. They do not take too long to dry and have gone back to pretty much the shape they started.
I have given them 1 star as they did make it a little more peaceful on later attempts and it could be that I have not quite got the hang of putting them in exactly the right place. As the work has almost finished I will not need any more but in future if I do need ear plugs I will pay a little more and hopefully get a more effective product.
The ear plugs are made by 3M UK PLC based in Bracknell.
Summary: Not a product that I will be buying again.
