Advantages: Quick assistance in an emergency.

Disadvantages: None apart from cost & upkeep.

You will no doubt be used to seeing first aid kits, in offices, workshops, kitchens, shops, but perhaps not in private homes. Accidents happen everywhere, and you need a basic kit for most accidents.
Cars etc. are also a useful place to have these, you may not be trained in it's use but it may be required by someone else, perhaps on you!.

Kits that are made to comply with Health & Safety laws are not covered here. If you need information on this, try looking at:- Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Approved Code of Practice 1997.
There are also other types of kits available, for outdoor pursuits, mountaineering etc.

The kits themselves are made to be either stowed away, or fitted to the wall, the idea being, they are always available when required. They are usually in a plastic container to keep the contents clean, and wherever they are kept, they are obvious to anyone who may need them.

You will need to check, but there may be First aid courses available in your area, completely free, and some are at very competitive prices, also check with your employers, because in some cases your boss may even pay, so you could be earning whilst on the course. These courses are enjoyable, and if you ever need to use these skills, you will feel confident, and be able to save a life. Please think about your own family, Say for example, an elderly relative collapses, would you know how to cope? What if your child started choking? Scenarios like this are more common than you would think, and an Ambulance can take a long time to arrive.

Contents of the box, these are typically found in an average kit.
Guidance leaflet,very useful too.
Bg of Waterproof Plasters (Sterile)
Eye Pads
Cleansing Wipes (Single)
Medium Dressings (Pad Size:12 x 12cm)
Large Dressings (Pad Size 18 x 18cm)
Triangular Bandages
Microporous Tape
Safety Pins (Assorted sizes)
Eyewash solution (10 ml.)
Scissors & Tweezers
Disposable Gloves
All contained in a First Aid Box

Some contents will have a have a use by date, so will need replacing at some time, even if they are not opened.

The types of kit reviewed here, are less than £10 or less
so there is no excuse.
In emergency, you may not have time to read instructions, so please take a look at this site now:-

I can thoroughly recommend these, please think about it.

Summary: A very useful piece of kit.
