Advantages: works effectivly if you stick to it
Disadvantages: quite complicated, hard to keep to especially if you eat out a lot
After trying numerous fad diets I came upon a book by Kathryn Marsden on food combining. Finally! I thought to myself I have found a sensible diet. No more cabbage soup for me! It seemed to make sense not just for those who diet but the population as a whole. The principal of this diet is 'don't eat foods that fight'. This means that at each mealtime you choose a category, protein, starch or alkaline-based foods (e.g. salad and fruit) rather than mixing categories together. In principal this diet makes sense as through not mixing foods which don’t react well together, you can loose weight as your digestive system is improved, which in turn helps get rid of the unnecessary waste which vastly adds to your weight. As I said earlier this diet is therefore good for healthy eaters as a whole not just dieters. Although this diet does sound fantastic in principal in theory it is quite different! If you are quite a disciplined person you will manage to easily follow it and watch the pounds shed off as my friend found. However if you are like me and eat out quite regularly, it is extremely easy to give into temptation, as it is so hard to find a meal that actually follows the food combining rules! In conclusion this diet is a fantastic idea that if followed correctly is highly effective. However if you are not very good at following strict diets, maybe this is not the one for you!

- 13/06/01 I dabbled with food combining when I needed to put on weight. Not enough discipline, as you say! |

- 12/06/01 All sounds like a bit of a trial. The best way to lose weight, I've found, is to stop shoving cakes in your mouth and eat sensible things like fresh fruit and vegetables :) |
