I would be liar if I said I was ever a huge girl, but I was a curvier than I would like to be and had tried many different things to help me slim down, especially after having my youngest daughter when I found it very difficult to shed the last of those pregnancy pounds.
My husband started on the Herbalife programme when I was pregnant, initially to lose weight, which he did. But in addition he found that his energy levels increased hugely and his IBS symptoms had not only reduced but were now almost completely non-existent. As I was struggling with morning sickness he did try to encourage me to try it on a supplementary basis but the smell was enough to make my very sensitive stomach wretch, so at this time I kindly declined.
Fast forward several months to after our daughters arrival I decided that I would give the Herbalife a chance again. After all, my husband was raving about it and the results he had were fabulous. So I decided to go with the strawberry hake formula, mixed as described on the tub with milk....Oh my goodness, it was vile!! Two mouthfuls were all I could manage before I decided to tip it down the sink, I then tried it will the vanilla only to get the same result. Not one to give up easily I spoke to my wellness coach (that's what the people who sell it to you refer to themselves as) and he gave me a recipe sheet for the shapes that incorporated fresh fruit juices rather than the milk. Wow, what a difference, from a sickly sweet horrible metallic milkshake taste to a tasty delicious smoothie style drink. Much more appetising. My personal favourite was vanilla with apple juice and a sprinkle of cinnamon, tastes just like apple pie and ice cream.
As part of the plan you take 2 of these shakes per day (so experimenting with the recipes keeps it interesting) you also take 2 fibre and herb tablets and one multi vitamin supplement 3 times per day along with your shakes and your evening meal. Between times you are allowed "healthy snacks" this could be some fruit, a small handful of nuts or even one of the Herbalife chocolate covered protein bars, which I love as they make you feel like you are having a little treat without making you feel guilty. There is also a tea or a thermojetic beverage as they call it which can allegedly burn up to 80 calories per cup, so being a heavy tea drinker I got some of this too.
During my first couple of days I found that I was quite hungry, but I think that is because I wasn't really drinking much water and didn't really take my healthy snack as I thought if I left them out I would drop the pounds quicker. Rookie mistake I guess. Anyway one week in and I had my weigh in, and much to my delight I had lost 5lb and overall 10cm from around my body (hips/chest/waist) I was so happy and this gave me the motivation to continue. A couple of weeks in I found my energy levels were increasing and I felt great and was looking great. It took me 4 months to get down to my target weight, having lost 35lbs and I decided at that to call it quits, big mistake. My energy levels dropped, I felt constantly tired and I found that eating thing I ate before such as bread rolls and greasy foods were making me bloated and giving me heartburn. So again I contacted my wellness coach who advised the healthy breakfast option, where I only had a shake for breakfast which I decided to go with and I am still taking now.
I have to be honest though and say it isn't the cheapest option around, at about £120 for a month's supply it's not within everyone's budget but I certainly feel it was worth it for me and my husband.
So would I recommend this product to others? Absolutely! I feel like a new woman and I can't imagine now that I will ever be without it.
