The worst thing about having an upset stomach I think is the cramps I get with them, sometimes I find myself having to hit the wall to allievate some of the pain. Horray for immodium is all I can say.

I remember before immodium I used to have Collis Brownes liquid which always used to mellow me out and give my stomach a nice comfortable feeling, this was the morphine it contained of course. Now that immodium is available you get a cure to your upset stomach without all the potenital side affects that mophine could deliver.

Immodiums active ingredient is loperamide hydrochoride 2mg. Basically this drug binds to the opioid receptors in your large intestines and lessens their musclar contractions and allows more water to be absorbed back into the body and stopping diarrhoea.

You should take two tablets initially and then another if your symptoms persist. Obviously this depends on how bad your symptoms are and personally i find one tablet is sometimes enough. Children over 12 should only take one tablet.

You should not take the medicine if you are preganant or breastfeeding, if you have a fever or if you think your upset stomach is caused by food posioning as you need to let your body eliminate the problem and stopping it doing so can make the situation worse.

On the leaflet with the tablet it says up to 10% of people who use the drug can feel sick or have their sense of taste alter, ive not found this to happen personally.

You should also not take the tablets for more than two says, as you can become dependent on them but also if you had a upset stomach for this long you should see your doctor.

The last time I used these tablets I was having quite bad cramps and needed to take two tablets. After i had taken them I didnt need to use the toilet again and the cramps lessened but it took around an hour for them to go completely. I found after this though that I was not able to go to the toilet for two days! Everything is fine now though but the effects of these tablets last a long time!

The tablets I had were around 2cm long and you could split them in half if you wanted. They were easy to take with a little water and had a pleasant taste. You can also get some instant tablets which dissolve on your toungue and i presume work a little faster, I have not tried them myself but think i will buy them as these ones did work but my cramps remained for longer than I thought they would.

They are a bit expensive, 5.59 for a pack of 18 in boots but they are an essential part of a medicine cupboard
