Listerine Mouthwash Don't you think life in prehistoric times were oh so simple ? Take for instance teeth and their care . Back in them days , you lived off what edible fruit you could find and the odd dinosaur of two that happened to be want to be eaten . Real easy eh ! Very little in sugar content , definately no sweets and no dentists them days - no need for them . Often by the time you normally would have had toothache , you've already been eaten by another dino. Now-a-days , there are so many right and wrong ways to clean your teeth , let alone the varied types of toothbrushes and toothpaste . Additionally there are now an ever increasing amount of tooth accessories to choose as well ( RIP the good old tooth pick , your time is up ) . Add to that the regular dentist appointments , and you've got your work cut out just keeping your teeth healthy ! Add to the above mouthwash , which is also becoming a hugely spoiled for choice necessity ( or so the manufacturers say ) , so hence this op , on one such product . Listerine is manufactured by Warner-Lambert Consumer Healthcare , who can be contacted via snailmail at Lambert Court , Chestnut Avenue , Eastleigh , Hampshire . SO53 3ZQ . Its objective.... Listerine is a BDA ( British Dental Association ) accredited product , therefore it's claims have to be founded , and no doubt are . The label says 'For healthier gums , use morning and night . Use just twice daily for 24 hour plaque protection , and lasting fresh breath confidence... What brushing starts , Listerine finishes' . It also goes on to say..'clinically proven to prevennt and reduce plaque - a major cause of gum disease , kill germs between teeth , freshen breath' . Notice the emphesis on plaque and breath . Variations..... Listerine comes in three flavours , namely : 1) Original . A TCP ( caramel ) coloured li
quid , that when used , tastes like neat alchohol . It really knocks the socks off you . 2) Freshburst . A minty green liquid , with mild/cool minty taste to match . really refreshing. 3) Tartar Control. A sky blue colour liquid , with a gentle spearmint flavour to it . Use this version if you suffer from tartar build up. Size , costs and availability... All variations come in 250ml and 500ml sizes . For Original and Freshburst expect to pay on average around £1.95 and £2.85 respectively . For Tartar Control expect to pay on average £2.25 and £3.50 . As for availability , any decent chemist will stock these , as do all major supermarket chains. Usage.... This applies to all types . Firstly brush your teeth in the normal manner . Then place 1 * 20ml ( 4 * teaspoons worth ) into a glass , then use to rinse around the mouth ( about 30 seconds in duration ) , followed by a gargle then discard . Do not swallow - it may not agree with your throat or stomache. I do however dare you to withstand 30 seconds of usage with Original - WOW , but saying that your mouth does appreciate it and the other variations . Using the measurements stated a 250ml bottle will last approximately one week . The labels of all state not to dilute - I wonder if this is a ploy to buy more ! It also instructs not to drink from bottle - sensible really , you wouldn't want others germs in your mouth ( kissing excepted amogst others ;-) ) . Additionally the warning that if problems in the mouth persist then contact your dentist - I find this one strange , as in the main , you will be using these products to promote a healthy mouth , with prevention being foremost . Using as a cure to an ailment is not the right way of going about things , hence its use in the first place. Lastability.... I have never found any mouthwash product to last the manufacturers claims . This is no diffe
rent , Snacks etc. reduce its refreshening benefits drastically . I do not however doubt its abilty to promote well being within . I've always suffered from gum disease , and the use of this product above all others has drastically reduced and help control this problem . Suitability..... Not recommended to children under 12 years of age. I would place a 16 recommendation on the Original version . Overview.... A great product , that your mouth will really benefit from using on a regular basis . It may be expensive , but I feel it is really worth the price . Prevention is better than cure ( although I'm not so sure your dentist will apopreciate the loss of work ! ) . Go on give it a go .
