What is it?
********
A dental mouthwash

What does it do?
*************
It claims to help prevent and reduce plaque and tartar build up, helps to kill bacteria between the teeth, freshen breath and also keep teeth naturally white. This also claims to reduce plaque by up to 56% more than brushing alone.

How does it work?
***************
Listerine recommends using the mouthwash at least twice a day - particularly effective after brushing and flossing. Pour about 20ml (2 tablespoonfuls) into a glass tumbler, rinse around the teeth and gums for around 30 seconds, gargle and then spit out.

Though it would be much more convenient, I don't think the cap is really intended for measuring out the mouthwash anyway as there are no measuring markers on it - this is in comparison with some of the other mouthwashes that have had them with their caps. The cap edge has two wide prongs sticking out, so that can put people off using the cap to sip from it. The cap is also one of those child secure lock caps as it contains alcohol. Personally, I still use it anyway - generally, I find half a capful roughly equates to the recommended amount to use.

Does it work?
**********
I have yet to see my teeth becoming whiter though this does leave my mouth feeling very fresh and clean after using it. This particular one - 'advanced control tartar formula' is one part of the new range that Listerine have been promoting recently. I think after all these years they have decided to have a revamp or something but this mouthwash not only is much improved but it feels very different too. A few years ago, I had tried using one their original mouthwashes and they were very difficult to use. The mouthwash itself had a very strong stinging sensation - it literally felt as if I was rinsing with strong stripping acid. So I was pretty reluctant to use this at first - however, it was either to use this borrowed from my sister or go without as I had run out of my own during a holiday.

I was very surprised. The stinging sensation is still there, however, it is much milder now - I don't really feel it while rinsing and gargling but just as it leaves my mouth - my tongue really feels as if it's being stripped by the acid and also leaves it quite white and furry - though this disappears after breakfast generally. It doesn't really affect my taste as I have found with a few other mouthwashes, and this is quite important.

Although it states 'Arctic Mint' on the bottle - and I was pretty worried about how strong it could be - it's actually surprisingly quite a mild minty flavour, if it's not this I don't know what it is that's making my tongue sting...

How much does it cost?
*******************
The new range mouthwashes are a little more expensive than usual, £3.69 for a 500ml bottle.

Overall
******
This new improved version is so much better than the original ones - it's nice to know that it does a little more than just reducing plaque - i.e. tartar control, keeping teeth white, fresh breath and kill bacteria...

In particular, is its improved 'invigorating' taste. I am a little more inclined to use it again knowing that it's milder - though I'm still a little comfortable with the significant stinging on my tongue. This mouthwash does contain a fair amount of alcohol - it is the second item listed after water, so I guess it's more of the alcohol that I'm sensitive to. I usually use the alcohol free mouthwashes anyway, so I'm hoping that they do an alcohol free version.

Thanks for reading. xx
