When a child first comes into contact with a toothbrush, their natural instinct is to chew. This is where the struggle and tears of both parent and child begin. You, the parent, are anxious for the teeth to be cleaned properly and the child see's it as another 'chew'. Due to the struggle and tears the infant instantly 'hates' the toothbrush. Those initial struggles will probably mean the infant will see the toothbrush as the 'enemy' and maybe this is a contributing factor why children grow up hating to clean their teeth.
