Pain relief at its best (Nurofen)

If like me, when you feel like your head is about to split into two, paracetamol just won't get rid of the agonising headache, the only product which seems to work for me (that is the only non-prescription item) is Nurofen.


Nurofen is an Ibuprofen based 'over the counter' drug which provides pain relief. Not only does it remove headaches, but also muscular pain, reduces cold and flu symptoms, as well as several other aches and pains. In my personal experience the time of effectiveness seems to usually be around 15 to 20 minutes for the pain to be reduced or removed.


Ibuprofen has been in the news in the past about possible side-effects of its use, with possible fertility problems for women who take it as well as photosensitivity, cardiovascular risk and risks in inflammatory bowel disorder (IBD). These are rare cases however and do not put me off using them.


There are several different types of Nurofen products on the market, including tablets, capsules, creams and the newest Nurofen product out at the moment and my personal favourite is the new 'Meltlets' which provides the same dosage as a normal tablet of 200mg of Ibuprofen, but requires no water when taken. This is especially useful for people like my wife who, for some unknown reason, can not swallow tablets. The meltlets dissolve in your mouth with a lemon flavour. The dosage is the same as a normal Nurofen or paracetamol tablet of a maximum of 2 every four hours for adults or children of 12 years or older.


Overall, Nurofen seems to be one of the best pain relief medicines on the market and is fast acting. I will definitely be using this medicine again in the future and would recommend this to all my friends and family.
