Advantages: no need for water, kills pain quickly

Disadvantages: -

Everybody hates feeling under the weather and having a great pain killer on hand is a must for my handbag. I've only ever taken nurofen and paracetamol and of the two I prefer nurofen as I find it kills pain quickly and so I can get on with everyday work.

Nurofen always seems to bring out a different way of taking pain killers and the ones they have on the market today are in the form of:-

Tablets
Capsules
Caplets
Liquid capsules
Meltlets
Gel
Heat patches

I have to say that I hate taking tablets and find them difficult to swallow and I've tried the nurofen tablets and find that these are small and have a sugar coating so there's not a bad taste as it touches your tongue. However, I really do hate swallowing tablets so I buy nurofen meltlets which have a lemon flavour to them. I know lots of people think that taking tablets are bad enough but letting them dissolve in your mouth must be horrible but trust me, the taste isn't that bad and I'll take them with no fuss.

All of the nurofen products come in a silver box and the meltlets come in a pack of 12 and costs £2.69 from Tescos. I have to point out that this is more expensive than the tablets which cost £1.97 for 16. There are clear instructions on the box and a leaflet inside which you must read before taking the tablets.

Taking the tablet

Taking the meltlet tablet is easy, there is no need for any water so can be taken as soon as you feel pain. Just place the meltlet onto your tongue and let it dissolve. On the box it says that it will only take a few seconds to dissolve but in my experience it takes a little longer.

Dosage

The meltlets are only for oral administration and for short term use. For adults, the elderly and children for 12 years and older can take 1 or 2 tablets up to three times a day leaving 4 hours between doses. You should not take more than 6 tablets in 24 hours and this product is not suitable for children under the age of 12. If after 10 days your symptoms worsen or new symptoms occur then consult your doctor or pharmacist.

What does Nurofen give you relief from?

Nurofen gives you relief from - headaches, period pain, dental pain, migraine, backache, muscular pain, rheumatic pain, neuralgia, cold & flu symptoms and feverishness.

It clearly states on the box that these tablets should not be taken if you have ever had/have a stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding, or are allergic to ibuprofen or any other ingredients in the produce, suffer from liver of heart problems or if you are taking any other NSAID painkillers or aspirin.

You will need to speak to a doctor/pharmacist if you have/had asthma, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, a stroke, heart, liver, kidney or bowel problems, or if you smoke or are pregnant.

Ingreadients for Nurofen meltlets lemon

Ibuprofen 200mg, ethyclcellulose (E462), silicon dioxide (E551), hypromellose (E464), mannitol (E420), aspartame (E951) croscarmellose sodium (E468), magnesium stearate (E572), lemon flavours.

Overall, Nurofen meltlets are ideal for me, they are easy to put in my handbag and easy to take when pain starts. I find after I've taken them it takes about 10-15 minutes (for bad pain) until I feel back to normal and have to say I forget about the pain unlike paracetamol where for me, it doesn't completely make the pain go away. If you hate swallowing tablets then these are ideal to have around the house, I now feel I can take tablets without making a big fuss about it.

Summary: Great at killing pain

Nurofen are sooo expensive. Normally they are just ibuprofen that you can buy for 18p in chemists. But the melty ones are a good idea. Good review x
