SlimFast
by CosmicLove
After I had my son last year I was determined to lose the weight as quickly as possible, and was dedicated to dieting. I started slim fast when Kai was about 6 weeks old.
There are lots of diets out there but because I've tried & had success with slim fast in the past I decided to go on a diet plan of 2 slim fast meal ... replacement shakes and 1 meal a day. I know how bad this sounds because I'd only recently had a baby and was breast feeding but I was desperate, in the end though after 5 days I decided to just have 1 shake a day and 2 healthy meals because even though I wasn't hungry with 2 shakes and 1 meal I knew I needed to eat more.
Because the shakes filled me up so much I struggled to manage a big meal so would just have a big bowl of stew or soup or if I wanted a bit of pizza Id have some because I had enough spare calories. I bought 2 big tubs of the slimfast, both were different flavours. There are a few flavours that you can choose from which are chocolate, strawberry and banana. Even though I know slim fast is a diet product I completely was against the idea of getting the chocolate one (was worried it would make me crave real choc) and so I got the banana and strawberry ones. Each tub was about a fiver from Boots and there was 538 grams in each one. There are 12 servings in each 1 which I think is a good amount.
The powder inside smelled quite nice when I opened the tub and the shakes were easy to make because you get a little plastic scoop. The tub says how to make the shake and it recommends 2 scoops with skimmed milk. Each of the shakes when made has got 217 calories and it tastes really nice once you get used to it. I prefer the strawberry because the banana one is a bit too sweet and fake tasting but both are nice.
The drinks are really filling, especially when I drank them slowly. The sweetness took away cravings for chocolate and sweets but the taste did take a bit of getting used to because it is a bit more savoury than a normal milkshake. I lost nearly 8lb in 5 days of having 2 shakes a day and 1 meal (which was normally about 700cals) and then after a month of having 1 shake a day and 2 meals I'd lost all together 19lb, so it helped me loss weight quickly without feeling hungry or under nourished! Slim Fast Heavenly Chocolate Milkshake Powder
by womble1985
I have never been able to follow a normal 'diet' as I have found that many diets often have more food in them than I would eat in a normal day, so I find it hard to lose weight as I don't eat a huge amount.
I started doing the Slim Fast diet after I had my first baby as I had an extra couple of stone to shift. The diet allows ... you to drink 2 Slim Fast milkshakes a day as well as 3 small Slim Fast snacks and then 1 healthy meal of your choice. This is called the 3.2.1 plan.
I have tried a few flavours of the milkshakes before, I am not a fan of strawberry and banana flavoured drinks in general but I have often bought the Cafe Latte flavour shake as its much like having an iced coffee. The chocolate shake to me though is by far my favourite. Not only does it have an intense chocolately flavour but it seems to be the only flavour shake that goes really thick and creamy. You make the shake up with 250ml of skimmed milk, along with two scoops (scoop included) of the chocolate powder. You can use a drinks shaker to mix it up but I prefer to use a hand blender, and I blend it for about a minute to achieve a really delicious thick shake.
Each shake is 230 calories when made with skimmed milk. I do find them very filling and they do see me through until my evening meal. I don't get bored with drinking them either, and they do come in a good range of flavours so if you think you might get bored then keep a few different flavours open at a time.
When I first did this diet a couple of years ago the tins were around £4.95 but having started doing the diet again now after my second baby I have noticed they have crept up to about £6 a tin which is quite expensive. But what I do is check the my supermarket website and most of the time you will find somewhere that has an offer on like 2 for £9 or 3 for 2 etc. And if you are lucky every so often Boots online reduce them down to £2.96 a tin, this rarely happens but I keep an eye out and stock up on several tins. I bought 12 at the beginning of January on sale and saved myself over £30! I thought I would save myself a couple of pounds one day and purchased a supermarket own brand chocolate shake and it was absolutely awful. I couldn't even finish the glass, it felt like it was sticking to my insides on the way down. You do get what you pay for!
Using this milkshake as part of the diet is great as they fill you up, you don't even need to follow the diet as it is intended, as if you just replace one meal a day with a shake they will help you lose weight.
Each tin hold 12 meals, so one tin lasts for 6 days. This I do find a bit annoying, why not just put 14 servings in a tin so it lasts a week?
Overall I have found this diet works well for me and the Slim Fast chocolate milkshake is a lovely creamy delicious shake, you certainly wouldn't know it is a diet shake! Read the complete review |

Slim Fast Summer Strawberry Milkshake Powder
by SoadFan
~Slim Fast ~ slim your purse and your body at the same time!~
************************************************
I have in the past tried some of the Slim Fast products including the Strawberry flavoured drink which I found had a strong, synthetic, yet not unpalatable taste. I tried Slim Fast strawberry as it is well ... known, easy to source and seemed like a helpful option at the time. Whilst I feel that these types of slimming/ diet aids can and do work for many people, I am of the opinion that they are not something to be used on a regular basis, as they are not really something that most people would want to consume as part of their regular daily diet.
The Strawberry flavoured drink is strongly flavoured in my opinion and has a reasonably thick consistency making it similar to a non diet milk shake type drink, meaning that if you like milk shakes the Slim Fast strawberry drink might be an option. Slim Fast drinks can be bought in a number of varieties and size options, with the strawberry flavour being available as both a powder type mix that you prepare yourself and as a ready to drink single use product. The powder mixes seem to offer best value for money in my opinion.
The ready to drink bottles are easy to use when out and about, as they are mixed and ready to use, however they are more expensive to buy in the long run than the powder mixes. Each 325ml bottle contains 220 calories and can be used as part of the 3 2 1 weight loss regime that allows you to pick up to 2 meals a day, 3 snacks, 2 Slim Fast meals and 1 so called sensible meal. This can and does make dieting rather expensive and in my opinion this money may be better spent later on, on a new wardrobe of clothes after following a more healthy eating plan that may have sometimes included these Slim Fast drinks, for ease and convenience.
I found that when using this type of product it is best to limit the intake of these drinks to just one per day for the first few days of a new weight loss regime, rather than rely on the drinks over the course of a number of weeks or months. The reason I say this is that I feel using Slim Fast drinks can mean that when you return to a normal diet, the weight simply piles back on as you are not re-educating yourself to eat more healthily, you are simply opting for the perceived quick fix method of losing weight. I find that counting calories and mixing food groups means you can eat healthier meals and have larger portions yet remain under your daily calorie limit and still successfully drop some weight....and more importantly keep the weight off!
~Product rating/ price~
******************
The concept of the Slim Fast drink does appear helpful as a boost at the beginning of a diet, if used as directed and I am certain that in the short term this plan and these particular drinks can and do aid weight loss to a certain degree, however they are not a long term fix and do not re-educate people or help them towards a healthier diet for the longer term. I would say that as an occasional thing there is no reason why these drinks may not be of use, but I would not want to use them as part of my regular eating plan.
The flavour of this particular drink is strong and synthetic yet not unpleasant in my opinion. My rating for the product is 3 stars, as I feel that there are better ways to stay slim, although this product can give you a little boost at the beginning of a new weight loss regime. The cost of a single ready mix drink is around £1 and the powder mixes that come as a 438g tub can be bought for around £4 in some well known supermarkets, although they can cost a little more at £6 plus. The powder mixes offer best value in my opinion. Read the complete review |
