What is the real definition of an alcoholic? (Alcoholism in General)

There are so many different opinions and definitions of alcoholism. I believe an alcoholic is a person who feels guilty about drinking, so they become sneeky. I am sure that there is at least one alcoholic in every family, so I don't really believe it is hereditary.

When we are born, the first things we drink are milk and water. When we get a little bit older, we get introduced to sweet drinks like pop. Then usually we get introduced to beverages with drugs in them, such as coffee and tea. So we go from needing to drink water and milk, from tasting sweet drinks, to drinking coffee because of quriosity. Then comes the experimentation whith alcohol. Some people like the taste, other's hate it. Alcohol is so customary world wide that it is being called the "social lubricant" Alcohol gives a sense of euphoria, which is a sense of pleasure, and this is when addiction takes over.

SO WHAT IS AN ALCOHOLIC?
SOMEONE WHO HAS:

- memory blackouts
- gulping - sneeking
- loss of control

These are just some of the symptoms of alcoholism. And I get so mad when people say that in order for them to get help, they must want it. Like that saying goes - "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't force him to drink" This is true, however you can make that horse thirsty! And people have to remember to that an alcoholic's emotions are drug affected, so you have to deal with the problem before coming up with a solution.
