A good old fashioned remedy, calamine lotion is excellent for stopping irritation caused by anything from chicken pox to insect bites, as well as giving cooling relief to sunburn. So if you have any kind of itchy skin you should try this, it is a well tried remedy. It is available from most chemists as either a water based solution or an oil based solution. The oil based one contains lanolin and peanut oil, so if you are allergic to these you should use the water based solution instead. Calamine Lotion I always now seem to have a bottle of this on my dressing table. I have suffered from eczema since birth but it improved radically as I matured. Sometimes however I do suffer from allergies. I am allergic I have been told to all the different forms of dust!. I am have some food intolerances including yeast and peanuts. As I also get hayfever which begins around this time of year for some people including myself, all these factors can combine to irritate my skin on my neck and arms particularly. Calamine lotion - a mixture of kaolin in a cooling suspension. Handy to have a bottle around as it helps with all kind of itching/rashes including chickenpox, flea bites, insect bites, stings and sun burn. I would not recommend it to anyone who suffers from eczema or other skin disorders as it is quite drying and may worsen the condition being treated. Available from all good chemists over the counter. The bottle needs to be shaken well as the mixture separates. It lasts for a long time (- my bottle is now about 10 years old and still going strong!!!) It is best applied with cotton wool to affected area. It is quite cold on application so be ready ...
