      Very helpful

I hope i never get it again

I just thought id write a review (or little story) whatever you want to call it about pilonidal cysts as I know its a fairly common thing but people sometimes don't want to talk about it given the location of the cyst.

Ill share my experience with you:

When i was 18 (I'm 24 now) I woke up one day with what I thought was a spot on the top of my buttocks just inside the fold of the buttocks, I didn't think much of it and just went about my business. It wasn't that painful but i used to work in an office and id sit on my chair in a strange way and people must of thought I was crazy but I didn't say anything because I was embarrassed. The 'spot' got more painful as the days went on and on the fourth day it got so bad that I didn't go to work, later that day I got a shooting pain and when i looked it had popped and there was blood and puss everywhere the pain straight away eased off and eventually the 'spot' faded and I didn't think anything else of it.

Forward 5 years later and I get the familiar feeling in the same place it starts off sore and tender to touch for a couple of days then the 'spot' comes back again, I talked to my mum this time and she suggested it might be a boil and to put a hot cloth on it, I tried everything and nothing worked. This time it was so painful to even move, I couldn't sit down, bend or even sleep. I went to work one day and the pain was that bad that i started crying and i was sent home. My boyfriend convinced me to go to the doctor, I was so embarrassed but the pain was unbearable.

At the doctors I was told what it was and was sent straight to hospital (I live in the UK im not sure if this is the procedure for every country) I spent two days in the hospital waiting for my operation and was told that they would be making a incision and draining the cyst, I got put to sleep so I didnt feel the procedure at all which was good but coming round It was really painful and I was given morphine.
My incision was 7cm long and 2cm deep the nurses packed it and covered it up and i was told i would have to go to the doctors everyday to get it changed.
It took 2 months to heal properly and the packing really hurts but its been fine since (touch wood) and im left with a little skin tag but im glad I went to the hospital and got it dealt with.

I wanted to write this in case somebody else has one and was embarrassed/scared about what it was or what was going to happen.
About 15 people saw my bum in those 2 months but they see it everyday and its nothing to be ashamed about.
I hope this has helped anyone because I know I would of felt better If i knew what I was going to be put through.

      sorry for the longness
