Bach Rescue Remedy Pastilles
by basketofbuttons
Being a bit of a stress-head, I bought myself a small tin of Bach Rescue Remedy Pastilles. I also have tried Kalms in the past but unfortunately they did me no good at all. This little tin I purchased from my local Boots and it cost £5.69 for about 30 sweeties in total. They do come in a choice of flavours, but blackcurrant being my ... favourite, these were the ones I opted for. I'm not sure what I was expecting with these pastilles and if I'm honest, I didn't really expect them to calm me down much at all, but I was willing to give them a try. What a complete waste of money they turned out to be.
They taste lovely. They taste just like a Rowntree's Fruit Pastille only less sweet and sugary - and a LOT more expensive. They come in a pretty little tin which nearly took my nails off the first few times I tried to open it. The tin is small enough to fit into my handbag without taking up too much space at all.
The pastilles are round, soft and slightly chewy. They are designed to be sucked or chewed, whichever you prefer. I tried to suck one all the way through, but much like a Rowntree's Fruit Pastille, I was forced to chew before I got to the end. The first time I tried one of these I ate only one. The next time I popped two into my mouth together. Hey made not one iota of difference and I still was feeling nervy and anxious and on edge both before and after I had eaten the pastilles.
I suppose they must act as some sort of placebo, but my anxiety levels are not being fooled by these little sweet treats. It was an expensive lesson and though I'm not sorry I tried them and gave them a go, I can't help thinking that I've parted with a lot of money for what was effectively just a little tin of sweeties.
Please don't waste your money on these. They did nothing for me and I wouldn't consider buying them again. Read the complete review |

Doublebase Emolient Cream
by Chippytarka
I first came across this product when I was pregnant with my first child, and my psoriasis reared its ugly head, and my doctor perscribed it to help my skin out. Now, with baby number two, this is cream that the doctor has percribed to her as she is suffering from eczema.
The problem that occurs with these two skin conditions ... is the skin can be dry, sore, cracked and can flare up for numerous reasons. The massive headache is the fact not one product can treat either or both of these skin conditions, and each person is very different. So what can work for some, and not work for others. So alot of people go through lots of different products to see whats going to work for them. Some of these products wont cure, but help the systems.
The doublebase gel I have is 500ml. Its in a pump dispenser plastic bottle with a clear expiry date on the back ( mines a new one and the date is 2016 ). This product is supposed to mositurise the skin and give a protective layer over. Providing hydration to sore, chapped and dry skin if used on a regular basis. Easy to use, use just like a body lotion. If prescribed, there maybe a set amount of times product needs to be applied. If not, just when needed and on the affected areas. My daughter's eczema is in the usual places e.g knees, elbows and I was advised by a health visitor to apply every nappy change, as her skin wasnt improving.
The product itself in regards to texture, is half way from being a gel to a crea,. Its not overally heavy but does require alittle working into the skin so if skin is ultra sore, be careful how much pressure to apply. It does leave a thin film over the skin, even on your own hands when you apply it on someone else so you would need to give your hands a proper wash.
Another way to use it is put the product on the body before bathing, as this helps the skin not dry out with the water.
My personal experience of this product on myself and child is it does give moisture to the skin and helps somewhat with itching, but doesnt make either of our skin conditions any different, just more managable. Read the complete review |

Boots Paracetamol Tablets
by basketofbuttons
I had gone shopping the weekend before last with my daughter and husband. The shops were very crowded, I was feeling very stressed out and then the inevitable happened. I could feel I was starting to get one of my headaches coming on. I happened to be in Boots at the time and as I had no painkillers with me in my bag (which is unusual ... for me) I bought myself a little box of Boots own brand plain paracetamol tablets.
The tablets were only a very impressive 39p for a box of 16. I am usually able to swallow painkillers without any water and as these were circular in shape with a very slight indentation right down the middle, I was able to swallow these without any additional lubrication. They are not coated, like Ibuprofen tablets are, and they were quite rough and chalky to feel, but they nevertheless just went down without any bother at all.
The box recommended one to two tablets but I opted for the maximum does as I had a feeling the headache was going to increase in pain and pressure. These tablets did manage very successfully from helping the headache to become any worse.
The tablets look much like any other pack of painkillers in that they are in a silver foil type of blister pack and you just have to pop the pill through one end to get it out. I have since used up all but two of these tablets (as my husband has also used some of them) and the only thing I don't like about them is that they can be a little bit difficult to get out of the silver foil. The foil seems to be a little bit more robust than other packets of painkillers I've used. Also, due to the fact that each little circular tablet has that indentation right down the middle, this means that pushing the tablet out often results in it snapping in two. This is a bit annoying as then it means that swallowing one gives it sharp edges and it hurts.
Apart from the snapping problem, however, I can say that these tablets work very effectively. I have taken them for headaches a few times since that day we went shopping and I have also used them when my shoulder was playing up again. They are good for mild to moderate pain, I'd say, and for only 39p for a pack of 16 tablets, I'd say they do represent excellent value for money.
