Otex Ear Drops
by thriftygiftyisme
Optrex Ear Drops
I have ears which just love to hold on to their wax, and of course you should not poke down the ear with cotton buds, pen tops, or whatever you lay your hands on.
It use to mean having to have my ears syringed regulary at the doctors, it doesn't hurt, but it is a pain making the time to go ... there.
=Otex to the rescue=
The last time I was having this done, my nurse asked had I considered using Otex ear drops, as they were an item that can be purchased from chemists without the need for a prescription.
=Blocked Ears=
When my ears are blocked, it is like a temporary deafness, I am forever saying pardon, the TV control the volume goes up, and I do get ear ache with it, so any possible relief is worth a try.
=Cost=
I tend to get mine from Boots (mean collector of loyalty points), and they are £4.49 for a bottle.
=The Product=
The drops are in a small little container, which has a built in dropper, for using the application into the ears, the product is boxed in a small brown based cardboard box and has Otex on the box as well as the bottle.
=Shelf Life=
Once opened the bottle has a shelf life of 4 weeks, after this you do need to discard the product.
=Blocked Ears=
As I mentioned I have blocked ears, and when I use these drops, I use the drops twice a day, usually for about 4 days, which softens the wax, for me, sometimes they are not strong enough to shift the wax, but the liquid softens enough that the nurse can syrine away.
=Would I recommend=
I would highly recommend the drops, as they are a great product, there not a product that I keep in the store cupboard but once I notice a build up of wax, then I get a bottle.
=One Tip Don't move too soon=
When you put the drops into your ears, you feel like a fizzing feel, this is the otex reacting with your ear wax. I personally find that if I lie down either on the bed or the settee, and apply the drops, wait about 10 minutes then apply to the other ear, this gives the substance more chance to work, otherwise if you move to quick, the otex just comes pouring out of your ear..
=How do I know whether its working=
Different people have different feelings with their ears, for me to know that the Otex is working, the TV starts to be back at a more normal volume, and I find that the wax is breaking up and coming out of my ear, Not in big lumps, just small amounts. Which although sounds disguisting, it is working.
=Stubborn Wax=
If you have really stubborn wax, you may feel that if you don't have lumps of wax coming out, it does not mean that the Otex hasn't worked, it is softening it, and if you need it to be syringed, it is soft ready for the nurse. Read the complete review |

Lloyds Tens Machine Digital Pain Reliever
by thriftygiftyisme
=LLOYDS TENS MACHINE=
Most people would associate a TENS machine with labour, that is one use for TENS the other is for pain relief in long term illnesses.
=My health=
Unfortunate due to being involved in a couple of car accidents, I was left with permanent back problems, and despite dosing up on a lot of ... prescription medication, my physio suggested that I try a TENS machine to help relieve pain.
=What is TENS?=
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation or Tens, is the usage of electricity powered by a usually small and portable machine. The aim is to stimulate the nerves and release endorphins which aid pain relief.
For some people TENS can be like a life line, with others, they are not suited, do not get the relief or 1001 reasons as to why they are not for them, it is really a personal choice.
=My first experience of TENS machine=
I had mine for 4 weeks from the Physio department to help with my back pain and the TENS machine did make a difference, but if I wanted one for longer, I would need to purchase my own.
=Lloyds Chemist=
While I was down in Devon, I saw an advert in a Lloyds Chemist window advertising a TENS machine, for £14.99 - off I went in.
=The machine=
This was a basic machine compared to what I had borrowed from the hospital, but if it gave me some pain relief I was willing to try anything. The machine measures about 12cm x 6cm, and is small enough to fit into a pocket. The unit is plastic, and is not heavy to use.
The machine was a single channel machine with a digital display screen, and this had two attached electrodes.
=Adjustments=
There are buttons that adjust the current and the pulsing pattern, there are full instructions within the box and recommendations to the length of time and how you it. The buttons are easy to locate and use, and cover the in/off and the
=Timer=
There is a 15 minute timer on the unit.
=Power=
The unit runs on 2 x AAA batteries, which I found lasted quite a while, but this would depend on your individual use. I had to buy my batteries separate as they were not included in the box.
=Electrode Pads=
As this is a single unit it has 2 electrode packs, thus clip to the machine and then go on to your body like a sticky plaster. The cord is 3ft long, so you do have some moveable room with the unit to the location of pain.
=Replacement Pads=
Like everything in life, the pads do not last forever, the sticky eventually becomes non sticky, and at this point you need to replace the pads, these can be purchased from Amazon or Lloyds Chemist, and can be in the region of £10. I find that using the machine 2 or 3 times a week that the electrodes last between 9 and 12 months.
=Instructions=
There are complete instructions within the pack, but I would say if you are unsure about whether these would be suitable for yourself, speak to your GP, physio or even the Pharmacy.
=Labour=
The most well known use of Tens machine is in labour, but they can be used for conditions such as pain management, sprains, arthritis and sports injury.
=For Me=
I have found the tens machine to be a welcome addition to the medication that I take, and I do find that it helps my back pain, but like all medicinal aids what suits one person may not suit another, so definitely take advice. Read the complete review |

Living Essentials 5-Hour Energy (Berry)
by MichaelIcethorn
Five hour energy is made to give you energy, right? I had bought a pack of pomegranate flavored energy bottles and believe me they give you energy! They give you energy for half a second before you run toward the restroom to relieve yourself of that acid. Honestly, I have asked school-mates, parents, teachers, and a compilation of people ... to tell me how five hour energy works for them. The results? About 80% of people say that the five hour energy that they had used matches my experience, puking out the vile mix or becoming more tired. The taste is retched. It doesn't even taste like the title says. Pomegranate, psssshh. More like rotten milk, BLEH! I take it that five hour energy may work for some people, but in my case it rarely works. I guess it was meant for, that when you taste the drink it jump starts your day from the uplift in your face and the disgusting taste make you feel like you are popping you head up on the ceiling. My advice to you five hour energy producers, make it taste better and add some kick into it. It's supposed to give you energy not make you feel like you have stomach problems. Jeez!
